2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

NCAA can't wait until Sunday because some teams might travel that day for the first 4 on Tues.

For baseball Mariners are not playing their first 2 series at home. They might stay in AZ site or go on the road.

Yeah ... the NHL train is rolling into the station after that 1pm meeting/call. It sounds like a suspension with no specific timeline following the NBA's model, but we'll see that the official word is this afternoon.

I doubt the NCAA continues down the path they're on for very long either. They've got the luxury of waiting until the conference tourneys are done, I guess, but the tide is running the other way. I haven't seen or heard much about MLB yet. Has anybody else?
Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic just put an article out on what MLB is thinking...sounds like a shortened season on games and an extended end date on playoffs is being discussed. The bigger question is, do teams send players on their way until further notice or keep them together...spring training camps as of now are wide open for fans, do those get locked down this week?

The Mariners are looking for alternative locations to play their first 7 home games. They are considering playing them at their Spring training facility or at the opposing team's parks.

That is all I've heard about so far. That is a result of the ban on gatherings in the Seattle area:

I haven't heard of any league wide announcements yet but I suspect that Seattle won't have to worry about their specific situation much longer because MLB will have to do something bigger at a league wide level. Can't see how MLB can carry on with opening the season unless they want to do so with no fans.

NY Post is reporting that the NHL conference call at 1:00 pm will be "to work out some of the details" but that the decision to suspend the season has already been made.

Start of season delayed two weeks... so far.

MLB? Checks Twitter ... yup. Spring training suspended, start of season delayed 2 weeks. More details to come (fine) and I doubt that 2 weeks holds, but we'll see. MLB has such a long season that they are in a much less vulnerable position that the leagues with their seasons in progress and/or winding down to playoffs.

There is a conference call with the GMs on Saturday at 2. LeBrun says it sounds like they're going to set the rules for what can and can't happen during the pause.

Apparently they're wanting to discuss opening up training facilities after some period of requesting the players to isolate themselves. Personally, I think they're gonna regret any decision made in the next two to three weeks until the testing becomes more widely available and we start to know what the actual infection numbers look like.

The Swedish Hockey League cancelled their playoffs. They had completed the regular season. No promotion/relegation either.

Yeah ... seems like pro/rel in most European leagues will be suspended for the year eventually. Too much at stake to waive away a couple of games/matches like they don't matter.

Yeah. My local team was in the middle of playing for promotion and actually leading that series but now that it got cancelled they have to stay in division 2.

The KHL was still playing. However, it looks like they’re about to pull the plug. Jokerit and Nur-Sultan Barys have withdrawn from the playoffs, so the league is likely to suspend the season.

Chris Johnston from Sportsnet says the league has told players that they can return home to any country and self-quarantine until the end of March. He also said it sounds like the goal is to reach-open camps at the end of April.

And when European players do that and then cannot fly back to North Americas due to travel bans, then what? Hopefully all of these players are thinking very carefully about what they due in terms of traveling outside of North America because they might not be able to easily get back.
