2019-20 Miscellaneous NHL/Hockey News Thread

officially deadline to opt out was Tuesday but anyone can leave at any time. You can't force someone to do a job .
I'm not saying you can. The interesting part isn't that they CAN opt out, it's who does. If a team lost a couple of key players it could seriously tilt the balance in a tight series. And all of these, bar one or two, will be tight.

Flames dman Travis Hamonic opts out. His daughter has a compromised respiratory system. He missed 2 games in January, 2019 while she was in the hospital.

Hamonic was drafted by the islanders but after several seasons requested a trade back to western Canada. I guess we now know why.

He went to Calgary before she was born. He was traded in June, 2017, she’s only 2 years old.

That's a big loss for them. Hamonic competently chews up 20 minutes a game for them and Calgary's depth on D isn't great.

Oilers dman Mike Green will opt out. He only played 2 games for them after being traded from Detroit.

Elliotte Friedman reports that the Habs will give Max Domi and additional 7-10 days to decide if he will join the team at camp. The deadline for players to opt out is tomorrow, but I don’t know how firm that deadline is. Waddell said, with regards to Pesce’s situation, that teams can make changes to the training camp roster, but once a team enters Phase 4 players can’t be added.

League sources have told The Athletic that 3 Canadiens players have tested positive for Covid19

Based on what we've seen from NWSL and MLS, getting these guys into "the bubble" clean is going to be a challenge. Get ready for more news like this

The Pens have sidelined 9 players who had secondary contact with a person who tested positive.

The league released the latest round of testing results. Of 4,934 tests administered to more than 600 players at team facilities from June 8 until last Friday, 30 players tested positive, for a 0.6% positive rate. They’re aware of another 13 positives externally.
