2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

On September 16, the Charlotte Observer will reduce their print editions to 3 days per week, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The print editions will be delivered by US mail. The Observer had dropped their Saturday print edition in 2020. They’re transitioning to a “digital forward newsroom.”

The Raleigh News & Observer shares the same corporate parent but there is no word on whether similar changes are forthcoming.

Sounds like Olympic soccer kicked off with all hell breaking loose in France today...Morocco was upsetting Argentina 2-0...then Argentina storms back to tie the game late but the goal apparently was called off after a lengthy VAR review, but the Morocco fans had stormed the field in protest prior to the goal being overturned, sounds like all the fans got booted out of the stadium, the game was paused...no final score yet announced nor is the game complete...

Kinda figured that was a part of the big picture when he brought in a political player like Fork. After all, the real estate stuff around the arena is down to the basic stuff like site plan approvals and the like. The heavy approval lifting is mostly done already, and Fork's more of a big picture player than a small details guy. Ironically, his former boss Berger basically gutted the State's athletics department that used to do stuff like coordinate bids on big events and provide support for bowl games and fledgling sports franchises. Those resources might have come in handy, but sadly that department largely went the way of the dodo along with the State film and TV development office.
