2020-21 Season and Draft Discussion

We worked out a balance there with Asplund and Juulsen to get through it agreeably, thank goodness. That's always the best result for everyone and I'm glad we came to a compromise that worked for us both.

Just for future reference though...I never want to look like a bad guy just for accepting a trade offer. But I also don't want to set a precedent where I accept a deal, and then anyone after the fact could go "Huh...he took that offer and is definitely interested. I probably could have gotten more. I'm gonna ask to renegotiate afterward based on X (a mistake, a typo, bad research, didn't check with my co-manager, whatever)". Not saying that's what happened here, but this hasn't happened to me before and here it occurs before I've even made it to a regular season in this league.

So, please everybody take your time, look up whatever you need to, think things through, click carefully. We can always negotiate options in chat or messages without official offers and I will happily go back and forth. But if this sort of situation happens to me again, I'm just saying "a deal's a deal" and I hope nobody gets angry with me for that.

Still a bunch of teams with illegal rosters.

20 Active, 5 Reserve, 25 Minors MAX.

The IR can be used if a player is listed in Fantrax on the NHL IR.

Is there a deadline set for roster compliance? It's usually around preseason, no?

I have one extra player - but hoping to pull-off a trade before the season.

Yeah, the deadline is the draft. And while the draft is ongoing technically you should drop a player whenever you add one, but we are pretty lenient since teams have uneven #'s of picks, there are trades, etc.

But everyone should be compliant now the waivers process is over.

So after every uneven trade, we need to drop to get compliant again, even in the offseason? Just want to make sure before I cut anybody I don't have to if the season start is the real deadline

I'm sure nobody cares if you take a couple of days to get compliant after a trade in the off-season.

Or do they?

Yeah, it's just like any other league, you need to have a compliant roster.
Disagree with this part.
All other leagues that I play in allow you to have an illegal roster for the offseason to make trades, etc. Obviously you can’t pickup FAs if you have an illegal roster, but as long as it’s legal by opening night or an agreed upon date.

I’m good with whatever this league is, just don’t say it’s “just like any other league”. In my case, this league is actually the outlier.

Post Draft

After the draft the undrafted players go on waivers for 48 hrs. Waiver order to start the season is the draft order then goes by standard priority, i.e after making a successful claim you move to the bottom of the list. You must make your roster legal by opening night.

So, yeah you don't have to have a legal lineup during the offseason post draft. Check the rules post always, if you aren't sure. We really shouldn't be having these debates all the time when it's all there in black and white.

I'm not sure when that was written or why, but we have always been pretty lenient about rosters from the end of the season through the draft, for good reason. But once post-draft waivers have been run, I don't see any reason why some teams should have illegal rosters. Of course there are trades and not being compliant for a few days until you get things sorted is not a big deal. We should change the wording, or at the very least make it opening day of training camp, not opening night of the season.

I have no issue with that, but again the rules are written as they are. We can certainly put up a poll to change it to an earlier date.

Fixed my roster the other day, just FYI.

I may be willing to move Mrazek or Lundvist for a forward or a pick if someone needs a goalie.
