And it’s Seth Jarvis in the 1st round

Craig Button says Brayden Point is a comparable. I’ll take it.

They are true to their word...no defensemen, high skill forwards even if on the smaller side. Askarov was the pick all the way if he was still there, so no problem with Jarvis once Askarov was gone!

Well, if you believe the hype, Jarvis and Necas are going to be setting Svech up for 50 goals...

If Jarvis is anything like Point we all will be pleased for years to come! Point is fearless for a small guy and Jarvis apparently has that same skill and nose for the net.

Canes apparently had Jarvis in the Top 10 on their draft board, so ... good value pick for them. The draft pool pretty much guaranteed a forward at 13, and the Canes leaned into their own recent bias towards skill and smarts. We'll see how he develops, but this is a comfort zone pick for this Canes player personnel staff ... should be fine.

He looks like a defensively responsible Jeff Skinner. Video I've seen of him potting it top shelf down low in tight traffic was most impressive.

Looks like we will have some competition at center for years to come-- Jarvis, Suzuki, Rees, Necas, Geekie, Drury...Some of those may turn into wingers or traded, but can't recall being this deep at center in some time.

The Athletic has a great Q&A article on Seth Jarvis. Most impressive is his speed and "well roundedness"

I think you break that down in to top 6, bottom 6 and you're looking a lot more balanced. Suzuki, Necas and Jarvis are top 6 guys ... and Rees is probably middle 6. And out of that lot, Necas and Jarvis are both likely to spend significant time at wing, where Suzuki and Rees are the pure centers. That's fine, and it balances out a bit. Geekie may have middle 6 potential, but as a center he's a plugger/forechecker. Drury, I've never been sold on. I think he's a defensive forward at the NHL level, if he even gets there. But yeah ... in the first round in particular I have no problem prioritizing skill over fit. Just get the guy with the skill set you like the best and then worry about needs later on down the road. Those guys don;t lose value as quickly as the all-arounders who don't develop their offensive quickly enough. Skill holds value ... whether in your lineup or somebody else's.

The next need has to be another defenseman with some size with maybe one of these second round picks today. Guys like Bean, Sellgren, Honka, Fensore are not really bigger body blueliners so you want a mix there on the backend in the system.

Well ... not sure that's next so much as it's on the list. Along with more scoring wingers, another goalie to throw in the mix and some heft up front. 2nd round isn't really the spot to look for stay at home D, IMO ... but whatever. If the value is there, go for it.

The defense prospect system is light compared to everything else, and consider Bean as a likely target by Seattle to get plucked away. Not a stay at home D as much as more D needed in the system, including some D with size and weight.
