For most of the country right now it’s about survival, clinging to a job or career if you are lucky to have one right now, hoping like hell that a vaccine will turn things around for the better. I watched 1/3 of my company that was furloughed in April be given their termination paperwork this past week, our events we hold continue to take hit after hit all over the country with no signs of stopping anytime soon, it’s depressing as hell. I love hockey, I’ve watched and supported the NHL since I was a toddler, but I have no energy left right now to really be that interested in what these two sides bicker about, the watered down bubble hockey format for me was not that enjoyable and I’m not sure empty building hockey in a home rink for 50-60 games is going to be much better.

Bill Gates says business travel will never come back to where it was, maybe 50% will come back. I agree with him. High rollers will still travel and go to fancy hotels and restaurants but the rest will be on zoom, webex, etc. If I hire a guy and it costs me $1000 on zoom and $2000 in person that's a real easy choice for many businesses. I guess if your business is full of cash maybe they pay extra $1000. Airlines and hotels won't like this but they better get used to it. Vacation travelers probably get better deals so that's a small positive.

Friend of mine who worked for an international architectural firm was laid off this week. Another who built high end jewelry stores all over the world wonders if they’ll be open in December. We’re scraping by. Pretty fucking tired of this bullshit. We’re all 59. Just what we all need at this age.

ticketmaster sent a survey similar to Canes survey about when would you go back to events. Like most people I said after I get the vaccines

Jake DeBrusk signed a 2 year $3.675 AAV contract with the Bruins. Straight salary deal, $2.5 million followed by $4.85 million.

As the league and PA continue discussions about the 2020-21 season, Vegas confirmed to TSN that 4 players have tested positive. The NFL has managed it reasonably well, ollege football hasn’t. The NFL is aided by a bigger roster, which was increased this year. But they only play once a week. MLB had a disastrous start to the season and then managed it well, but blew all their goodwill in game 6 of the World Series.

Teams were allowed to bring 28 skaters and unlimited goalies into the bubbles for the playoffs. With the league asking for a bigger salary deferral, I don’t see an increase to the roster in the cards.

NFL players have a lot of money to lose if games are not played. College FB and BB players take money under the table but not as much as NFL pays.

Mikhail Sergachev signed a 3 year, $4.8 AAV deal with the Bolts today, removing him from the 'pointless speculation about offer sheets' list.

His 'pay' is:

20-21 $2.4 million ($1.5 million signing bonus, 900k salary)
21-22 $4.8 million ($1.5 million signing bonus, $3.3 million salary)
22-23 $7.2 million (all salary)

He will still be an RFA after this deal is over.

Bolts have 19 players under contract and are $1.9 million over the cap.

Hockey Canada has shut down their World Junior camp for 14 days because 2 players tested positive for Covid. They had announced yesterday that a “non-core” staff member tested positive. They’ll quarantine in their hotel in Red Deer, all workouts and meetings will be conducted over Zoom.

John Forslund will not be replacing Rick Peckham in Tampa. The article says that Tampa would prefer a full time guy. NBC still hasn’t announced Doc’s replacement, I wonder if Kenny Albert is reluctant to give up his NFL and other gigs?

“I was strongly considered, and there was mutual interest,” Forslund said Tuesday in a phone conversation. “I have the utmost respect for the organization. They were really good to me. But I decided to move forward with other options. I’m free to pursue other things.”

I mean, everybody would prefer a full time guy. That was the issue for Johnny here as well. NBC needs to either hire him full time or change their contract structure so he can take a job with a team. Nobody's going to go for a deal where they have to run a replacement play by play guy for any significant chunk of the schedule ... especially not in a year when it looks like TV broadcasts will be your only fan outlet for much of the season.
