Sweden’s WJC team has a Covid outbreak. Four players and the head coach have tested positive. Germany also has 2 players testing positive. Dreger says there will be a call this morning on European testing.

Alberta Health cleared Team Canada to resume WJC practice. They had been under quarantine.

ETA: McKenzie says 5 players are being sent home, 2 tested positive, leading to the lockdown, 3 more also being sent home, he doesn’t say why.

Billy Guerin looks pretty bad in that narrative since he was the Pens front office point man who allegedly told Skalde to "get over it."

The Florida Panthers have established at “Goaltending Excellence Department”, headed by Roberto Luongo, who is a special advisor to GM Bill Zito. They’ve brought in Francois Allaire as a consultant and he joins Panthers goalie coach Robb Tallas and Checkers goalie coach Leo Luongo. They have Bob in goal for another 6 years and also have 2019 1st rounder Spencer Knight in his sophomore year at BC. Their minor league goalies have never played in the NHL.

There is a Board Of Governors call at 4:00 today. It’s an update on the events of the last week and no vote on anything is expected, per LeBrun. That will come after the league and PA finalize the season plan.

Lemme get this straight. They hired Allaire as a consultant, already pay Tallas an NHL assistant salary and have a full time minor league goalie coach ... AND they're bringing in Luongo to do something? That's a LOT of horsepower and a LOT of their coaching budget tied up on goaltending. Not to mention they're paying Bob $10 mil a year for the rest of his natural life.

Sure. Makes sense.

Yeah, that's a lot of cashish to pay someone to just tell people, "Do it like I did it. Especially against the Hurricanes." Another team could do the same by hiring Henrik Lundqvist after he retires. He'll just quote Luongo, "Do it like I did it. Especially against the Hurricanes."

I mean ... in reality they're just inventing a role so they can keep Luongo engaged with the organization. So, it probably doesn't really hold up to any real scrutiny anyway. You think Bob is listening to any of that outside noise? 99% chance he's barely paying attention to the goalie coach much less anybody else.

Luongo came on board last year, Zito is shuffling things around in the front office after taking over in September. Tallas has been with the organization for 10+ years, Luongo the Younger has been the minor league goalie coach for 4 years. But bringing in Allaire is an odd move, having never worked with Luongo the Older in any of his stops. It’s especially odd considering that Spencer Knight is their only bona fide goalie prospect and he’s still in college.

And there is no way that Bob is listening to any of them.

LeBrun says the preliminary divisions look like so:

Bos-Buf-NJ-NYI-NYR-Pha-Pgh-Was
Car-CBJ-Det-Chi-Fla-Min-Nas-TB
Ana-Ari-Col-Dal-LA-SJ-STL-VGK
All-Canadian teams

That looks not so bad for the Canes.

Honestly? 2nd or bust, for me. And Brindy would be nuts not to set the expectation at the Division title.

It’s gonna depend on what Tampa’s roster ultimately looks like and how healthy Stamkos is. It’s not an unreasonable expectation.
