2021-22 Season Hurricanes Misc. Thread

looks like legal sports betting in NC will pass this year. Cooper is in favor. Only issue could be how much tax is for each bet.
New Jersey gained a little over $100 million in tax revenue on a nearly $11 billion handle last year. Now, I don’t think we’ll see that big a handle here, but you never know.

NC has more than 15% higher population than NJ, but less of a betting culture, so who knows? I'd bet the total numbers work out about the same. And what State government is turning up their nose at something around $100 million in revenue from an untapped source?

The GA session starts today.

Only people who probably not in favor are hard core Christians. But they did not stop the lottery or allowing booze sales to start at 10 am on Sundays.

They are still ignoring taxes from medical pot which is very popular even in red states.

Also 5 casinos in VA are opening soon including Danville which is an easy drive from Raleigh. They are not native American run.

From here, please direct comments about gambling that aren't directly tied to the Canes to the Grab Bag thread ... m'kay, thanks

I’d

I’d love to see Dundon and the Canes build a nice new sports betting facility adjacent to the arena complete with a spacious restaurant/bar to place your bets and enjoy some food and drink! I know there are legal logistics on where it’s built in proximity to the arena per the future state license but it seems like an opportunity to really do it up large!

If Canes arena was downtown like most arenas there would be lots of people nearby who could stop in and bet on their lunch hour, after work, etc. . For example in DC Caps arena is in Chinatown which is a busy area. It's also on top of a metro stop.

If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

Wish in one hand, S#!t in the other & see which one fills up first.

I wouldn't mind seeing a betting facility near the fairgrounds. It would be off the hook during State games for sure. No reason they couldn't put one downtown as well. I honestly wouldn't want the arena downtown. Parking & traffic there already sucks. We don't have a suitable light rail or mass transit system, so it would just be a vehicular cluster[Polar's word]. Wouldn't necessarily want to be toting winnings near sketchy neighborhoods in the vicinity.

No practice or media today. Limited participation practice and media availability on Monday.

Back from a couple of days off ... which the Canes needed as well. They haven't seemed in synch since the break, which isn't all that unusual really.

And just to make sure ... could we not re-hash the downtown arena thing for the millionth time? Nobody's opinion is likely to have changed since the last round.

Looks like STMs will be getting renewal specifics for 2022-23 later this week. I'm thinking that after 4 successful seasons under Dundon's ownership, and our continued spending to the cap (and above) this might be the point where they push ticket prices up by a percentage higher than we've seen in a while. I'm 'expecting' 8-10% for the amount of the price increases for STMs. For perspective, that would put my $57 per game tickets to $62 or $63 per game (or a $210 or $252 per seat increase for my full season ticket, 42 games). All before taxes.

Then of course the Stadium game is going to be completely separate from our ticket package and a whole different money outlay. Will be interesting to see those prices.

After playing 3 games in 4 days, and with 3 days between games, the Canes are not practicing or holding media availability today. With yesterday’s matinee, at least they got home at a reasonable hour.

I'm expecting All Star Game level prices for lower level seats for the Stadium Series game. That seems in line with what most everybody else who's hosted those things has done, so that's fine. And look ... I say that now, but I'm gonna be a little salty about paying $250 for a seat with a bad view of the distant playing surface just so I can be part of the "event" when the time comes. But intellectually, I get it.

And I think you're spot-on with the ticket price prediction. In fact, I recall Dundon telegraphing this day when he was doing media in the summer after they made the playoffs for the first time in forever. He basically said that he was willing to subsidize paying to the Cap, but that the day would come when the ticket revenue would have to step up ... both in terms of sales and pricing. Accounting for the pandemic impact, ticket sales have been there ... so it's time for the other shoe to drop. Again, I'll be a little salty but this is just market reality.

next season and playoff ticket prices are out now. If you want to do pay as we play for playoffs you have to renew 22-23 season tickets first. Was that the case in the past?

Aside from the Stanley Cup final, that was perhaps the most memorable game I've ever seen.
Top 5 for me, probably. Not because I cared so much as for how hard it is to forget. No way it bumps these three though ... Game 7 in the 2006 Finals, Game 3 in the 2002 Finals (that gutshot loss to Detroit in 3 OTs) or the Game 3 brawl against New Jersey in the First Round in 2001
