2021-22 Season Hurricanes Misc. Thread

RBA's father in law was an assistant under Sloan from 70 to 78. :)
Which, for clarity, doesn't make anything related to Sloan or even Fast Eddie appropriate in this thread ... even as a joke. The Grab Bag thread is basically your personal playground. Knock yourself out over there.

Elliotte Friedman tweeted that he believes that Eric Tulsky is on Chicago‘s list for their vacant GM job.

That would be very bad.

Not surprised there was no mention of the Canes going back to back now in the accuracy shooting comp.

Pierre LeBrun has an interview with Waddell at The Athletic, talking about the trade deadline. The Canes will have 2 days of pro scouting meetings 2/18-19 to start prepping in depth, but they’ve been meeting virtually every 3 weeks or so. Waddell plays it close to the vest, and really, what does the team need? The consensus seems to be a depth LHD.

Waddell also said that they’ve started discussions with KK‘s team on an extension. They had earlier discussions with Trocheck’s team and both sides decided to table them but they’ll engage again at some point. That doesn’t bode well, unless Trocheck‘s lack of scoring this year, even with 6 points in his last 6 games, brings his number down. If they can extend KK, I’d turn my attention to Nino, rather than Trocheck.

I doubt Tulsky is up for any old GM job, the way the national hockey media always assumes. Chicago's situation is um ... difficult, and their ownership is clearly unplugged from reality ... based on Rocky Wirtz' recent kerfluffal. I'd be surprised to see Tulsky move there. Now if a team with a more 21st century mindset came knocking, then yeah ... you'd want to protect that very significant asset.

Honestly, there's probably no way a number cruncher like Tulsky gets a sniff at the Chicago job anyway. There is probably no NHL market more enamored with traditionalists and alumni than Chicago.

Welcome back to the back half of the season. Jesperi Kotkaniemi has entered the Covid protocol. Per Walt Ruff, all players were required to take a re-entry test and the Canes are practicing tonight before tomorrow’s game in Toronto.

Yeah. That was the players' gift from the league in exchange for switching to the "only with symptoms" testing requirement. There was a zero percent chance that somebody didn't swab hot after the break. They'll be lucky if it's just the one guy, honestly.

Jack Hughes also entered the protocol. But apparently all the Canes ASG participants cleared re-entry, so that should be the end of it, unless any display symptoms.

Didn't KK fly to Finland with Turbo and Raanta?

Following up on that Tulsky conversation ... Chicago announced on freaking Twitter that they're interviewing Peter Chiarelli. Like that's something to be proud of. Have fun with that. Again, I'd be very surprised if Chicago ends up with a GM that isn't 100% vetted and approved by the 200 Hockey Men.
