That one came in much lower than expected...good value there if Kane can behave himself.
As long as more stuff with his ex-wife doesn’t come out, he should be OK. Less trouble to get into in Edmonton and he knows he’s at the Last Chance Saloon.

Tampa locking up everyone...Anthony Cirelli 8 years and $50 million...Sergachev 8-$68m and Cernak 8-$42m on new extensions too.
That's their Core 2.0 ... and they don't have much choice. They can't afford for any of those guys to get anywhere near free agency.

Got out-bid. And that's fine. It's almost always better to be out-bid on UFA day than it is to go one bump higher than your budget for a player.

Yeah that's too much for a guy who has barely sniffed the NHL in 8 years.
I still have zero idea what they're playing at with Ruff. He was WAY out of his element last year as they upgraded the roster and the fact that they're letting him lame duck his way into this next season is ... just weird. And picking a designated successor who was also in way over his head in the playoffs with Florida? Also weird.
We’re assuming he’s the designated successor but it’s a safe assumption. Brunette and Ruff have no prior relationship, Bruno never played with or for him and the style of play seems pretty well diametrically opposed.

I just like the fact that Brunette told Florida to go pound sand and decide to not hang onto a front office position after his decent year behind the bench after Q was shown the door!
I guess, but there was reporting out of Miami at the time that Brunette actually sought to make a move to the front office. That would mean he changed his mind and decided to find another job that was more on a coaching track. It's a weird outcome any way you look at it.
Nobody involved int that trade is any good at all. Every time I look at Carolina's roster I'm thankful for a solid to 4 on D ... because that is just NOT the case around the league.
Could have been a precursor to what Elliotte Friedman just tweeted, that he’s hearing Jeff Petry will be traded to the Pens.

Saw that. Petry can still move the puck at least ... and losing Matheson is always a good way to make your team better.
So what are the Habs doing? A full tank? These are the dmen listed on their CapFriendly roster, in order by cap hit: Matheson, Edmundson, Savard, Barron, Harris, Wideman.
