2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Chicago is a cluster**** of a franchise. So their botched handing of RFAs is perfectly in line with Wirtz’s handling of the media during the presser and their malfeasance of Kyle Beach’s situation. While it might be apples and oranges, to me it’s just an extension of overall mess.

The Blackhawks have placed Brett Connolly and Henrik Borgstrom on waivers to start the process of buying them out. Connolly has 1 year left at $3.5 million, so they’ll absorb a $2.33 million cap hit over the next 2 seasons. Borgstrom has 1 year at $1 million, his impact is much less, the buyout cost is only 1/3 of the contract value, so only $83k next year and $183k the year after.

Meanwhile the Black Hawks ticket operations department has announced that 985 season ticket holders cancelled Saturday and another 1216 cancelled yesterday...:)

Is this just to make a point to Kane that they will not buy him out? I don’t understand why you’d buy out a guy who has 1 year left on a salary that’s barely above minimum wage.

Leafs not qualifying Ondrej Kase. He’s coming off a 1 year/$1.25 million contract, which was a big cut from the 3 year/$7.8 million contract he signed with the Ducks in 2018. He was coming off a 20 goal season, a number he hasn’t reached since.

The Caps didn’t qualify Ilya Samsonov. They have no goalies on their roster, unless you consider Zach Furcale or Pheonix Copley NHL caliber. But LeBrun says he believes the Caps are front runners for Kuemper, so we’ll see what happens on Wednesday.

So Campbell goes to Edmonton and Kuemper goes to Washington, and the Leafs starting goalie is...... Matt Murray? Ilya Samsonov? Varlomov via a trade?

Sounds like they’re working on a trade for Murray, after he rejected a trade to Buffalo.

Dreger says that Malkin will hit the open market.

Samsonov is certainly worth taking a flyer on, he won’t last long on Wednesday. Dubas is such a predictable fool in regards to his love affair with everything Soo Greyhounds. Murray has been awful for three straight seasons yet he’s the answer for Kyle Doofus just because he knows him from his Soo days…just let it go Doofus. How that guy keeps his job is just mind boggling when you look at some of his decision making.

Toronto got their goalie, getting Matt Murray, a 2023 3rd rounder and a 2024 7th rounder from the Sens for future considerations. Sens retain 25% of his salary, so his cap it will be $4.8 million.

The guys on NHL XM today were a actually joking about "what if Toronto gets Murray" and how bad they'd feel if that happened. Several good goalies available, and THIS was their choice? Oh boy ...

Joe Haggerty, who covers the Bruins for Boston Hockey Now (whatever that is), says signs are pointing to David Krecji signing a 1 year deal with the Bruins. He played in Czechia last year. He only had 8 goals, but 36 assists in 51 games for the Bruins in 2020-21.

I mean ... OK. Matt Murray still coasting on that year and a half heater he went on back in 2015-17 gets handed the keys to yet another Cup contender. Sure. What could go wrong? And, for a cap crunched team like Toronto it seems important to point out that Murray hasn't played more that 50 games in an NHL regular season ... in his ENTIRE career. He played exactly 50 once, and managed 49 on two other occasions. Otherwise, injuries, platooning or just plain sucking have conspired to limit his starts.

If there is one thing Dubas can point to as a positive ... at least Murray is a proven playoff goalie. He's always been decent in the post season.
