2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Indeed, it's hard to make sense of how selfish and cruel people can to toward each other. But just look around it's everywhere.

I feel ya, man.
The majority do have good hearts. But there is a lot of evil out there and really not a lot of brave hearts.

I know about being bullied though and few of the people with good hearts have brave enough hearts to intervene.

I’d like to think I’d have done something about it if I was their classmate. Even if it was just getting my ass kicked in solidarity.

Yeah ... I grew up in a weird time and was moved to a private school environment after spending some time learning how to defend myself in the turmoil of the process of our public schools being desegregated. I actually had an advantage over the entitled bullies in my new school because I actually had been in fights before, and I put my foot down on more than a few of them ... because I freaking hate bullies and always have. Did it make any difference in the long run? I have no idea ... probably only on the margins. None of the guys who were bullies in my prep school grew up to amount to anything, that much I know. But I also know that at least a couple of their targets also struggled. Bottom line ... life is messy and some people suck.

In this day and age you would hope that most of mankind would stand up to bully's and the act of bullying and chase and call out that kind of behavior. I am glad that the Bruins players stood up for the Miller signing and said "no way not on our watch"...that is what is supposed to happen when you see the brutal and poor judgment that Neely and Sweeney made!

Just goes to show you that with all the consultants, advisors and others hanging on the teat, that people can still be stupid and so tone deaf on these types of decisions. Common sense still rules!

I don’t see why it would it be any different in this day and age. If standing up to bullies was common there wouldn’t be bullies and there are.

You know when teachers aren't even alowed to tell kids to stop doing bad stuff or they get reported, then things like that will never stop.

That was supposed to happen back when I was a kid too, but it didn't. Some things change, but never as much as you'd think. A lot of our societal institutions are build mostly on blind faith and goodwill, a lot of it unearned. So when our systems come under pressure, they routinely buckle. One thing that doesn't seem to change ... there are a fair number of bad actors and crappy people in the world.

The city council is definitely on board, although from the reporting it seems like they took a bit more convincing than the Yotes thought they would. No telling how the public vote will go but, in general, municipalities have been supportive of arena and stadium projects so long as they're convinced of the stability of the franchise. While Arizona is NOT particularly stable as a franchise, you certainly can't say the NHL isn't 100% invested in the market. You also can't say why that's the case, because no one can.

IIRC, when the referendum was first mentioned, the article noted that there were no concerns about it being passed. I think they still need to withstand a couple of legal challenges but the biggest issue is, that no shovels in the ground until May, they’re probably playing the 24-25 season at Mullett Arena. So 3 years in a college rink.

Based on the outside the market reporting I've seen, most everyone is fairly confident that they'll get the number in the public vote. After all, those things are generally a get out the vote challenge more than anything else. And 3 years was always the realistic timeframe for the new building. In other words, everything thus is far is pretty much on track ... except the Coyotes should have started the process 3-4 years ago if they were going to have a seamless transition. Or, failing that, the team could have not sufficiently abused their relationship with Gila River to the point where they essentially got kicked out of their old building.

Bottom line, even if the Coyotes end up happily operating in a state of the art new building in a market that actually wants them, they've still screwed this whole thing up 50 ways to Sunday and deserve every bit of the shame and shade they're gonna take for playing in that stupid Mullett Arena for three years. Nobody cut the Canes any slack for Greensboro and that looks like a genius plan compared to this crap.

Jeez. Werenski can't seem to catch a break. Seems like every time that guy gets hurt, it's long term stuff.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel, call your union rep.

Maybe I've been sleeping on the guy, but I never clocked Aube-Kubel as a particularly dirty player before. But that was 100% a snuff hit, from that angle and with that delivery. There's nothing you're doing in that spot other than trying to knock a guy out.
