2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Geoff Sanderson at the first "Skate with the Canes" event in 97 has entered the chat.

Dude was "FML, just stay away from me" on skates that night.
Andrei Kovalenko from the first kids day at the IcePlex has entered the chat. And honestly, Glen Wesley looked like he had just gotten back from a no anesthesia root canal and was chasing it with a ton of Sour Patch Kids.

More and more teams are getting better at engagement. And if you're a fan of vintage video on YouTube, you can do a quick browse through NHL teams' promotional videos from the 80s to see just how much better.

Kris Letang re-signs with the Penguins...it's a six-year, $36,600,000 extension ($6,100,000 AAV).

Lunacy. He’ll be 41 when it’s over. He hasn’t played a full season since 2010-11. He took a pay cut from $7.25 million to $6.1 million so they probably needed to add term to make up for whatever Letang wanted as a total. It’s a 35+ contract so they’re obligated for the whole enchilada until the inevitable move to LTIR.

Six years?!?!?! Wow!

Avs can’t afford Darcy Kuemper so he’ll hit the market next week. Avs then traded a 3rd and 5th this year and a 3rd next year to the Rangers for Alexandar Georgiev. The Avs don’t have a pick until the 6th round this year.

You have to wonder now with that trade for Georgiev and saying goodbye to Kuemper that it free ups the extra few million needed to either bring back Kadri or at least Nicushkin and maybe Manson. They can qualify Georgiev for $2.65 m.

That Letang contract is madness. Pittsburgh should look at SJS‘ contracts for Burns, Pickles and Karlsson to get a sense of what overpaying does to a team.

I think they're more concerned about extending MacKinnon. I also think they woke up and realized that Darcy Kuemper sort of sucks. Georgiev kind of sucks too, but he's got a better chance of improving and doesn't have injury issues.

Yeah. They REALLY need the guy for the next couple of years though. I guess they figured that they'd deal with later, later. That's going to the bell for Malkin though. No way they go into next season with two of those 35+ contracts on the books.

Alex DeBrincat traded to Ottawa

To Chicago: 7th overall 39th overall 2024 3rd round pick
To Ottawa: Alex DeBrincat

That gives DeBrincat 3 opportunities to kill the Canes instead of just 2.

Debrincat's detractors will note that when he not paired up with Patrick Kane he's a very ordinary player 5v5. We will get a chance to see how things go 100% removed from Kane now.

Slovaks go 1&2 in the draft. Gotta admit, hard to stay very interested not having a first round pick this year.
