2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

Panthers re-sign Eetu Luostarinen, 2 years/$3 million. He had a nice season for them, 9 goals, 17 assists.

So after being mortally offended at not being given the starting job here, one year later Ned finds himself firmly stuck another platoon situation in Detroit. Color me shocked.
When you put up a GAA at around 3 or above in a somewhat starters role that doesn't leave your GM with much choice. Ned at least got his fiance to Michigan for those MSU classes!

Unless they are going to trade for someone, it almost has to be Campbell or Kuemper for the Leafs now. And they are going to have to potentially compete with the Devils and Oilers for those 2. And the Leafs also don't really have an NHL backup goalie either.
I think your better off trading for someone like Gibson than wasting $6 million plus on Campbell or Kuemper...

But now Cam Talbot has entered the chat and wants out of Minny...

Dach to the Habs for 13 and 66. They got 13 from the Islanders in a package for Alexander Romanov.
No shots fired at Montreal or anything, but that's a lot to pay for Dach. I'll grant that he's still got promise (and size) but he's had ample opportunity to ... you know ... do stuff in Chicago and hasn't really ... you know ... done anything.

Vitek Vanecek to New Jersey...so Caps shopping for another goalie too! Let that goalie carousel run hard and fast...

IMO Toronto could do a lot worse than trading for Talbot and trying to find a quality backup rather than getting tied down to a UFA contract or Gibson's remaining deal. Talbot is every bit as good as Gibson right now, and he's only under contract through next season. Committing to long term on a UFA or Gibson's 5 year deal can't be realistic options for them.

Seravalli says that Sakic has let it be known that Kuemper’s rights are available for a late round pick.

I agree, Talbot had a great season last year. Seems like a value add for Toronto or even Washington.

John Gibson at $6.4 AAV for 5 more seasons is a huge leap of faith that he finds his game again.

.904
.903
.904

Those are his save percentages for years 1-3 of his 8 year $51.2 million contract.

Minnosota trusted Talbot so much they went out and got MAF for the playoffs. Talbot is exactly the type of goalie the Leafs would put their faith in.

The reality is that Talbot has a .921 Sv% in the playoffs. That is better than Jack Campbell (.915) and Darcy Kuemper (.908). So yeah, Leafs might want to swing a trade instead for Talbot.

Honestly, I think Gibby's going to play well for his next team but that contract means only the "trying to get back in the game" teams like Ottawa or New Jersey need apply. It's just too much of a term and cap commitment for a contender.

I mean ... they screwed up, didn't they? Flower did very little of any note for them. I've got no idea why they went back to that well.

I miss Louie. Of the prospects Carolina has shipped out for assets, he's one that could have made a nice fit for the long term here.

I'm just glad the Canes did some decent goaltending shopping business last summer, it was less nutty than what this summer has already been like.

A tidy little Freddy extension of a couple years to pair with Pyotr after next season would be ok for me.

Somewhere on my phone, I have video of his solo skate. He’s awful in the circle though, only 40% but after practice tutelage from the master could have fixed that. He’d have been an OK 4th line center and penalty killer.

Can you imagine the payday Freddie would have gotten if his deal with Toronto had been a year longer? Even with the injury situation.
