2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

I like Rod's idea, get two refs off the ice to open up the playing surface to the players since the game is so fast, put two zebras somewhere off ice to review stuff that needs to be looked at closer. It's not that out there in terms of the thought when you consider that anymore everything is now a huddle, a ref conference, a review, etc. If the players knew everything was going to be looked at closer you might have fewer guys doing stupid shit.

Yeah, at least he knows the drill. I'm not sure Lavi is a great fit for whatever that roster ends up looking like, because either way the roster breaks, the big talent on that team is best playing on the break. That is NOT his thing.

Lavi just needs to retire. He looks like hell. Everytime I see him I think he’s going to pass out from massive meat sweats
I think he wants more more swing at the pinata ... and he did more with that Washington roster than I thought he would. I think he's got another run in him, I just hate to see him spend it on a team that's not a good fit for what he does best.

Elliotte Friedman says the Jackets have talked to Kirk Muller, who is also on Anaheim’s and Calgary’s list. They’ve also interviewed Pascal Vincent, Travis Green, Andrew Brunette and Patrick Roy.

So, it's Panthers vs. Knights in the Cup Final. Who besides their fans actually gives a [Polar's word]? I don't give a rip about either team. I'd probably rather have the Panthers win because they've had a longer road to get there and they have been all the way to the bottom before. I'd also be happy to see Mo win a Cup.

Las Vegas was pretty much gifted a team and I don't love their show style game openings.

I mean, I'll watch when I get all the way over the "my team got pasted in the playoffs" hangover. And look, did you want to see freaking Tampa in another Final or endure the coronation Boston was supposed to have?

You know what? Every time somebody casually mentions that Jarmo is a really good GM, I'm reminded of the guys he's hired to coach that team. Roy? Muller? Travis Green? Are you freaking kidding me?

Greeaaaaaaat! I get to see Stanley Cup shit all over town when I'm in Las Vegas next week. A nice bitter reminder of what could've been.

I'll be putting a small cash donation on the Panthers to a sports book when I'm there. Maybe I'll hedge my bets and put a similar amount down for the Lions. Look, no risk, no reward. Heel Turn: You jabronies can put your money on the Eagles, but you rednecks are boring. Your moms told me as much last night!

We watched the first few minutes of the game last night, more as background noise than anything. Turned it off at 2-0 and watched stuff off the DVR. I’m not sure how much, if any, we’ll watch from here, we have lots of recoded stuff to catch up on and a lot of streaming to watch. Have to check in on my daughter’s Netflix subscription too.

Same here except we switched to the final two episodes of season two of HBO's incredible Somebody, Somewhere. Such a great show. Then I moved over to the Miami/Boston game 7 to see what was happening there. Boston turned it into a good game before Miami opened the game waaaay up in the 4th.

Jarmo Kaukonen may have done better.

Didn't mean to imply that. I sort of figured that Tampa was too spent to get there this time anyway. I NEVER want to see Boston win anything...EVER. I can't wait to watch that Bruins team blow apart in the off season. I'm also glad Colorado is home watching and Washington, Pittsburgh, & Buffalo never got there.

To your point; aside from the Hurricanes, I suppose I hold a grudge against most other NHL teams to a varying degree.

I have a huge anti-Original Six bias. My first question to most Leafs fans is "Were you even alive the last time they won the Cup?"...the answer most often tends to be NO these days. Hell, I was 6 years old at the time myself. I respect their history and enthusiasm, but there's too many cooks in that kitchen. The Toronto & Montreal fans were the most fun guests to have here during past playoff runs & I loved having them around. Hockey IS freaking life for them & you could tell. Their passion rocks. It was also fun to be able to see them cut loose at the tailgate before the games.
Considering the number of years Detroit has been in the League, they have surprisingly few Cups to their credit...definitely not enough to be self-glossed, Hockeytown. Same for the Rangers, Bruins, & Blackhawks. Montreal was definitely the dominant team back then, but aside from a nice COVID bubble run, their last Cup win was 30 years ago(!). (our only Cup was now 17 years ago...yikes.) Montreal appears to be like Toronto with the massive and excessive media & fan pressure inflicted on their team. It would be interesting to see what they could do if either team was here instead...not that I want that, I'm just curious.

I get it. Everybody wants to see their team hoist the Cup, but loving them to death can be a harsh reality. Vegas can pretty much kiss every inch of my ass. Hard times for them was missing one year of the playoffs...Sheesh.
I hate the beating Florida laid on the Hurricanes, but they're the lesser of two evils in my world, That's all.

Per Kevin Weekes, the Preds whacked John Hynes and are hiring Andrew Brunette. Unless David Poile made the hire in his way out the door, that’s Barry Trotz’s fist move as GM. Brunette played for Trotz in 1998-99, the Preds’ first season in the league.

LeBrun says that Gallant will interview in Calgary and Laviolette has a 2nd interview with the Rangers.
