2022-2023 NHL Misc. Thread

After his on-ice meltdown last night, Benn left the arena without speaking to the media, leaving DeBoer and alternate captains Seguin and Pavelski to clean up his mess. No word from Player Safety on supplemental discipline.

The Stars also lost Dadonov to injury last night.

Benn had a big time bounce back season this year ... his best in 5 years and the first time since the first year of his monster contract that he came anywhere close to earning his keep. And he decides to end his season on THAT. Congrats, you giant lunkhead.

Benn has a hearing with Player Safety. I don’t know what his disciplinary history is, but 2 games wouldn’t surprise me.

I figure two is the minimum, even for that pack of clowns. Maybe three. That hit while Stone was prone on the ice is 100% indefensible.

Yeah. That seems on the level with the two handed overhead chop to the head. Seems like that should be a season. There’s no excuse. It’s absolutely not an accident or in any way intended to not be what it is.

I like that DeBoer made the claim that no felt worse about the "mistake" than Jamie Benn himself. OK man, cover for you boy, it's expected, but let's not venture off into outer space with this crap.

It’s a mistake true but it’s a mistake you just can’t make. The guy was down. You can feel bad about it but is that because of the deed? Or because you hurt your team? He needs to get help. The league needs to send a strong message.

Benn pulled a Nazem Kadri...old Kadri did that twice to his former team in the post season and the second time got him traded. If Bunting got three games for his antics in round one that has to be at least 2 if not 3 games for Benn.

Wait, that can't be real. No one is stupid enough to try to use that excuse.
I feel like he's giving the league office an out if they feel like taking it. Nobody honestly believes that excuse for a second, but we're talking about a league that let Sam Bennett off the hook for taking multiple stick shots at Benning during the Leafs series, so ... yeah. If he just straight up apologizes now, he ties their hands. It's BS, but I get it.

Benn got 2 games.
We've established that 2 playoff games translates to 5 regular season games, right? If so ... it's still not enough for me. I honestly think there should be absolutely no place in professional sports for so blatant an attempt to injure. For a guy with any history at ALL, that should be 30 games in my opinion. And look, we can argue about fighting and head shots all day, but the NHL could move the needle towards player safety quite easily by banning all stick contact with prone players. If a guy's in a defenseless position on the ice and you make aggressive contact with your stick, then you're out for a minimum of 10 game for a first offense, with multipliers of 3 ... 10, 30, 90. Who the freak argues with that?

Jamie Benn, Peteriangilo

They need a rule change that hard codes that. If you do x you are done for 30 games or 60 or 90 or life. Then player safety simple decides if you did x. If he though he’d get more than a game or two he wouldn’t have done it. And if he still did it then he needs to not be in the league also it needs to be reviewable even if not caught by the on ice officials.
