2022 NHL Playoffs Round Two Series Thread ... Canes vs Rangers

Tuesday doesn’t make sense when the other series has had more rest, go Wednesday and Friday! I guess it’s all about building availability but let Florida beat the shit out of Tampa Tuesday.
Michael Smith said Tuesday during the post game last night. There are 2 conflicts to work around, John Mulaney at PNC on 5/22 and The Who are at the Garden on 5/26. If they play every other day, neither conflict will come into play, regardless of whether they start on Tuesday or Wednesday. Selfishly, I’d rather not a matinee on Saturday, I have tickets for Hamilton at 2. But that would be a road game anyway.

IMO, it’s nearly impossible to overturn that, unless the ref really botches it live.

Also just a ridiculously skilled play by Guentzel to even get it to his stick.

I have a really hard time believing that the stick contact was made legally. I guess I'm OK erring on the side of the shooter if it's close, but ... I dunno. Hell of a play by Guentzel though

OK ... Wednesday it is. Sucks for my personal schedule, but my son can make it down for Game 1. So, that makes up for it :0) seeing as how this is all about me.

I was OK with either matchup, honestly. Both teams had plenty of stuff that Carolina can exploit, but Shesterkin is the leveling factor and he's got to be feeling good abut himself after pulling THAT out of his hat for Game 7. It's another top heavy opponent with a questionable back end, but this time one that doesn't have nearly the defensive system polish of the Bruins. The Jerks are dangerous, but it's a team that Carolina can wear down without making any major changes to their system or their game. Easier said than done of course, but nothing was ever gonna be easy in the East this year.

Anyone hear anything on Andersen?

He’s not been skating and it has been a month since the injury against Colorado. Raanta has been performing quite well, but hoping we’ve got what we need to offset Shesterkin

There's been some loose chatter on the internet presuming he's ready to go for Round 2 but I think that's just mass assumption and or positive thinking. Until he actually takes a full practice, I'm considering him to be just plain old "out." Put it this way, his most likely issue was an MCL sprain/tear. That's what has bothered him in the past and depending on the damage it's generally a rest/rehab kind of an issue. That can easily be a 4-6 week process, so we aren't outside of that window yet ... and personally I'll just hang onto that assumption for now.

I just want him back as a tested backup for now; he's been out too long to not give Raanta the starts. That being said Pyotr is unproven but held his own pretty well if Andersen isn't ready; I'm really just more concerned about Raanta not getting injured at this point.

I was surprised at how well Jarry played yesterday after being out for 5 weeks. But Andersen isn’t even skating with the team yet, I don’t see him coming back for a while yet.

A lot of people are writing this series off as a speedbump. Handing it to the Canes. Not so fast. The Rangers may not be deep. But they have some proven Canes killers on that team. And that goalie is gonna look like a Vezina winner most nights. I don't share that optimism.

Meh. I see the stats nerds have established Carolina as strong favorites but nobody who's opinion I respect is saying this round will be easy. Keeping in mind that when one of those guys gives Carolina a 75% chance in a series or whatever, they're JUST talking about winning the series, NOT what it looks like. I keep seeing that it's a "good matchup," and I agree with that. But Boston wasn't a bad matchup and that went 7 and got plenty hairy. This could too.

It was reported by The TV crew twice in Game 7 that Roddy told them if they make it to round 2 Anderson would be ready. For whatever that’s worth

Ready for Game 1 or ready at some point? Big difference and until he actually survives a live fire practice, a moot point either way. You want NYR thinking about it. From a Canes fan's perspective, I'm good sitting on "believe it when I see it" as a default position.

I think only fools discount the Rangers. Their big three— Panarin, Zabinejad and Kreider— can score. They have Trouba and Fox on defense. Shesterkin is going to win the Vezina. Gallant is a good coach. Sure, we are faster, deeper and play a better possession game, but we had to go to 7 against Boston and we said the same things about them. Of course, the Hurricanes are not Pittsburgh.
