2023-24 Canes Misc Thread

The idea of Aho, Jarvis, Svech and Guentzel being our core forwards for the next five years sounds almost too good to be true!
Oh, given that the roster is at an inflection point no matter how this plays out ... it's a way to go. There would be a price beyond his cap hit though. The more they have tied up in the first line, the less there is to cover everything else. And this team is largely built on depth.

First world problems.

More Black Aces, Raanta, Comtois and Coghlan were all recalled. I’m surprised they didn’t bring Suzuki in too.

Man...that poor guy. He put himself in place for a big payday then has a slightly subpar season and now this bullshit. Sucks

Rumor has it Pesce is done. Ligament.....
An ACL tear wouldn’t surprise me, the way his knee buckled. Svech came back in about 7 months, that would make Pesce’s return around Thanksgiving. He'll probably only get a short term deal this summer. He cost himself a lot of money during the season, this is the cherry on top of a 💩 pie.

Yeah ... I've now seen rumors that it's an ACL, an MCL, some sort of tear, some sort of sprain, and just for diversity's sake ... a groin pull. It's the playoffs, so for all we know they've had to amputate Pesce's leg. In fact, I'm gonna go with that until I see evidence to the contrary :0)

BTW ... I'm not making fun of anybody here. With a media presence of like 5 people and the usual playoff information lock down on injuries, speculation is going to run rampant. And the current culture in public spaces online is ... umm ... wild. For the pragmatic fan, if a guy on your favorite team is out with an injury, it actually is safest to just assume that player is basically dead. Unless it's Mark Stone, of course. He cannot be killed.

Looks like the Pesce scenario is serious, but not fatal (in playoff context) - sounds like a few weeks, but if he could return for an ECF/SCF that would be great news if things work out

If it’s a sprain it’s a different kettle of fish, grade 1 is as little as 3 weeks, grades 2-3 are 4+.

Let's hope for the best. I worry about running TDA in the lineup, but we have to live with what we have.
Again, better against a 2 line team like the Islanders than absolutely anyone else (other than the Caps) that the Canes would run into from here out.

And again, I'd be cautious about assuming that Pesce's injury is anything other than exactly what has been said out loud in public ... ie, lower body. Could be an ACL, an MCL or freaking turf toe for all we know.

Lines at practice are the same as last game. Still no Fast, so he’s out again tomorrow. TDA is paired with Skjei, Andersen in the starter's crease.

Guentzel-Aho-Svechnikov
Teravainen-Kotkaniemi-Necas
Martinook-Staal-Jarvis
Drury-Kuznetsov-Noesen

Slavin-Burns
Skjei-DeAngelo
Orlov-Chatfield

Andersen (starter's crease)
Kochetkov
