2023-24 NHL Misc. Thread

I much as I think Trouba is a dirty player who gets away with too many hits that are "right on the edge of legal", THAT play last night looked 100% unintentional. I don't think Trouba even knew Pavel Dorofeyev was that close to him and he certainly didn't appear to intentionally elbow him in the head.

I don’t think anything he does is unintentional. But that doesnt even really rose to a fine. Aside from DOPS being a clown show, with all that Trouba has gotten away with, it’s hard to see why they drew the line at that hit.

I only watched it once, but I'm with you on the intent thing. Trouba is a member of the Corey Perry Club, leaving a trail of injured bodies that he "accidentally" hit. The league has never been any good with guys that play with much dead eyed disregard for other players.

The Rangers announced that forward Filip Chytil will miss the rest of the season. He was injured on November 2 with the Rangers calling it an upper body injury but widely suspected to be a concussion. He had gone back to Czechia and only returned to New York last Monday. He fell while skating at an optional morning skate on Friday and was down an estimated 5-7 minutes. It was only the 2nd time he had skated since the injury.

If this is as serious as it sounds, woof. Chytil is only 24 and you'd hate to see a promising career get blown up that early.

The Oilers of Edmonton are taking a 16 game win streak into the All Star break. The hitch in that win streak is that their start of the season was so bad that they are sill waaaaay behind the Canucks and a fair bit behind the Golden Knights. Both teams that are still winning games at a good rate.

And while the driving storyline behind the Oilers' surge has largely been "McDavid got ticked off and got busy," in truth it was Stuart Skinner finding his form that drove their resurgence every bit as much as McDavid going all McJesus again. I know, I know ... I'm on a one man goalie crusade lately, but even with the best offensive production in hockey, if the goalie sucks it's all for naught.

During their streak, Skinner has started 12 games, Pickard 4. Cumulatively, they’re at 1.49/.945 during the streak. That’s pretty good.

And look ... the coaching change brought in some d-zone tweaks and a general change of attitude, but nothing makes a team play improve results more than the goalies going from .870 to nearly .950

The Flames released a statement that they had no knowledge of the charges pending against Dube when they released the original statement regarding his requesting a leave for his mental health.

Liar liar pants on fire types everywhere when it comes to this entire sad state of affairs with this mess...Hockey Canada executives, the players involved, so these NHL teams with multi million dollar investments in their players are completely unaware of anything to do with this incident despite it being out there for almost 6 years...interesting.

Here is an article about the fall and re-birth of Jokerit, one of the iconic Finnish hockey teams. They made an ill-fated move to the KHL with Russian investors. When the sanctions against Russia came, they wanted to get back to Liiga but had to divest themselves of Russian owners. Enter Esa Lindell and Teuvo Teravainan, both of whom played for Jokerit. They’re back, playing in the 2nd level Mestis, with hopes of winning promotion back to Liiga when the league restarts promotion/relegation next season. And they’re homeless, their former home, Hartwell Arena, is still under Russian ownership. They play at rival HIFK’s arena.
