2023-24 NHL Misc. Thread

Seeing that NHLPA boss Marty Walsh is putting the kind of pressure on the NHL about the Arizona situation that SHOULD be coming from owners in other markets. https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/articl...-around-coyotes-new-arena-plans-unacceptable/

Still unclear what Bettman's endless fascination with a market that clearly doesn't want the product is, but it's about bloody time somebody with some juice started to put his little hobbit feet to the fire.
But aside from public statements, Walsh can’t do anything. Is the PA going to make that a point of intention in the next CBA negotiations? Insist on minimum seating capacity? Locker room requirements? Those are non-starters with the owners. Ultimately, it’s up to the other 31 owners to decide they’re tired of indirectly subsidizing the franchise through revenue sharing payments.

He can publicly shame the league and that sorry excuse for a franchise, which is precisely what everybody else who "can't really do anything" in this scenario has been avoiding. And he can do so from a position of authenticity since he's accurately reflecting the sentiments of the players ... who collective are, you know, the "product." It's obvious that this charade can't go on much longer. The league needs more and louder voices pointing out the obvious since the powers that be will otherwise think they can continue to do whatever they want.

The Islanders activated Ryan Pulock from LTIR and moved Casey Cizikas and Robert Bertuzzi from IR to LTIR.

Slugs dman Mattias Samuelsson has an upper body injury that requires surgery. He’ll miss the rest of the season.

The Flames, Flyers and Devils will get salary cap relief for their players on leaves of absence.

Caps forward Evgeny Kuznetsov has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

I'm glad he is seeking help considering everyone knows one of his substances of choice from international drug tests and social media photos.

The Rangers put Nick Bonino on unconditional waivers for purposes of contract termination. They had waived him on January 26 but he decided he didn’t want to report to Hartford, so he’ll be a UFA this time tomorrow. He has 1 goal, 4 assists in 45 games.
