Honestly, nobody should host those unless you have the first or second overall and know you've got a generational guy. Otherwise the official draft parties only breed contempt. They also can start to give fans the impression that the 20th overall pick (or whatever) is a big freaking deal every time. It CAN be, but often is not. Again, it just builds disappointment into the fan experience where it doesn't belong.

The draft should be a time of hope and renewal ... and learning how probability works.

Meh. This is just that kind of draft and when it comes to the longer odds guys, the more shots you take the more chance you end up hitting something. By all reports Carolina got great value out of their 2nd round selections and that's where they've done the most damage with this scouting group anyway.

Oilers are buying out goalie Jack Campbell.

Jackets are buying out dman Adam Boqvist.

Jets buying out dman Nate Schmidt
 
Jeff Skinner posted a farewell message to Slugs fans on his Instagram. So the buyout looks like it’s legit.
 
Jake Bean, who the Canes kept instead of Gustav Forsling, wasn’t qualified by Columbus. Waddell finally learned his lesson, albeit 3 years too late.

Honestly, for the right cost ... grab him. I'd vastly prefer Bean over Coghlan as a spare D.
 
Patrick Kane re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $4 million salary with $2.5 million in performance bonuses. Those can be deferred until the 2025-26 season.
