2023 Draft and UFA Thread

It’s not all or nothing.

If opportunities come up that make sense, take them and adjust accordingly. Contract expiries that presents interesting opportunities don’t always align with a core age group’s apparent window, so it’s not a tragedy if someone is a touch older than Nick Suzuki if you can get 5 or 6 good years. Perfection is the enemy of the good.

The perfect tear down and rebuild is super rare, maybe the best recent attempt was Chicago. But I wouldn’t hold my breath, hockey doesn’t easily give us the Atlanta Braves or Manchester United of the 1990s where stars were freakishly aligned.
You and your logic… pfffft

For anyone interested, there's going to be a few draft-eligible players on Team Canada's U18 roster:

Worm is in for a huge letdown if he thinks we will use ANY first round pick on MM. I think he’ll go late in the first round. And I’m not saying we shouldn’t draft him but I can see Molson putting his foot down and saying no.

You’re out to lunch if you think Michkov is lasting past top 10
Will be interesting to watch play out, how many top-10 teams are willing to play geopolitical roulette and willing to wait out 3-years (minimum) for Michkov, and how those GMs sell it internally to ownership?

NHL teams can still sign KHL players to contracts, but they must work with the Central Registry to show "independent written evidence demonstrating that the player is entirely free of any and all potentially conflicting contractual obligations in the KHL for 2022-23 and beyond."
