2023 Draft and UFA Thread

For boys, until you’re 14/15 or so it really shouldn’t matter, in almost any sport. It’s different with girls, they mature and peak much earlier.

Sometimes I wonder, should Gabe Perreault be in play with our first round pick? Assuming we stay at 5/6.

If Will Smith goes fourth and we're still in our anti-Russian stance? I think Perreault might be the guy.
It’s not anti-Russian. It’s pro-we’re not in a position to draft someone in that spot who might not play for us for five years, if ever.

Not if you ask Stinky and (allegedly) the Habs brass, who apparently don't want any Russians picked.

I don't think the whole "We have to wait 3 years until he comes over" thing is all that relevant, honestly. Nobody besides Bedard is playing in the NHL next year, Fantilli included. He's apparently going back to Michigan for his sophmore season. Personally, I'm tired of having 18 / 19 year old players on the roster unless they're so undeniably good.

While maybe not that likely, it might take a lot longer than 3 years to get him here. That’s the risk, especially if there other very good prospects available at 7, which there of course will be.

5 -6 WOW

Caufield benefited greatly by going back to Wisconsin for another year. The old regime got that one right (for once.)
One of the unintended benefits of players going to the NCAA: They won't sign their ELCs immediately as they don't want to lose eligibility.

A lot of them grow up with ambitions of playing both in the NHL and the NCAA.
