2023 Draft and UFA Thread

I don't think the whole "We have to wait 3 years until he comes over" thing is all that relevant, honestly. Nobody besides Bedard is playing in the NHL next year, Fantilli included. He's apparently going back to Michigan for his sophmore season. Personally, I'm tired of having 18 / 19 year old players on the roster unless they're so undeniably good.

It isn't about how long his development will take, it's about whether he will ever come to North America or be able to come to North America. Right now he's got an equal chance of being shot to death by Count's son in a Ukrainian wheat field as he does to play NHL hockey.
 
Yeah if he was 3 years wait then guaranteed to come over, that wouldn’t be much of an issue but it’s 3 years minimum then maybe never.
 
I would have to think there's a plan to get him here sooner or be could very well drop but the talent is undeniable. Someone will take the risk in the top 5-7.

so you are saying there is 0% of him playing in the NHL?
 
If he bolts he won’t be able to return until there’s a regime change. They’ve implemented an digital draft in which you aren’t even notified, they just block you from exiting if your name is on the list. And even if he does run, his family could be harassed (more likely than not).

My mom got us out of the eastern block back in 70. I would imagine that was difficult too. She didn't fly out she drove out then flew.

But you weren't projected to go in the top 5 of the NHL draft and become an instant millionaire. And the surveillance state wasn't as advanced as today. Getting the Stastny's out of Prague wouldn't be as easy today as it was in 1980 and it wasn't easy even then.
 
With electronic surveillance sure a bit but don't kid yourself, they had shadows back then. It was bad too.

I would imagine money cures all. Pay the mob to get him out. It's an industry like coyotes in Mexico
