Hey ... of all the clipboard skill categories at draft time, the one you've got a legit shot at significantly improving is skating. Guys mature into whatever body they mature into, but almost everybody can improve their skating. It's just a matter of how much. And rounds 4-6 are the perfect time to mess around with skilled but flawed guys.Justin Poirier led the QMJHL in goals last season as well by 6 over 2nd place (51 goals in 68 games). He followed that up with 18 goals in 17 playoff games.
Small and not extremely fast is why he fell to the 5th round. It was surprising however that he fell all the way to round 5. He is the perfect Canes long shot that we love to draft. High end skill and goal scoring ability, with multiple concerns in other areas.
