2024-25 Hurricanes Prospects and Minors Thread

Yeah, there's a reason Russian prospects get drafted lower than they should, and it's not just how hard it is to scout them properly.

Canes Prospects at U20 World Juniors:

Bradley Nadeau (CAN) - 3 Games 0 Goals 0 Assists -1
Felix Unger Sorum (SWE) - 3 Games 0 Goals 5 Assists +4
Oskar Vuollet (SWE) - 3 Games - Goal 0 Assists Even

Canada is 2-0-1 and Sweden is 3-0 so far.

Unger Sorum is having a nice tournament. Nadeau has been moved from the top line to the 3rd line. The big news of the tournament so far is Canada’s shock OT loss to Latvia. They also struggled to beat Germany yesterday. The US was cruising until losing to Finland in OT yesterday. US v. Canada tomorrow will decide Group A. Czechia and Sweden are tied at the top of Group B. They also play tomorrow to decide that group.

And the Wolves are on a pretty nice heater. Suzuki’s 19 assists has him tied for 7th in the league

The US beat Canada 4-1 to win Group A. Bradly Nadeau had the goal for Canada, his first point of the tournament. Sweden won Group B, Felix Unger Sorum finished with 1 goal, 4 assists. Oskar Vuollet had a goal.

The quarterfinals are set, all tomorrow.

Sweden v. Latvia
US v. Switzerland
Finland v. Slovakia
Czechia v. Canada

Bradly Nadeau got the tying goal for Canada late in the 3rd but Czechia got the winner on a PP goal with 39.4 seconds left. Canada is out in the quarters for the 2nd straight year.

Unger Sorum had another assist for Sweden as they got past Latvia. They face Finland in the semis.

The US beat Switzerland 7-2 and face Czechia in the semis.

Chicago Wolves last week

Jan 2 Iowa W 3-2 Martin with the win. Ethan Keppen, Austin Wagner and Heimosalmi with the goals.
Jan 4 Rockford W 4-0 Martin with the 20 Save shutout. Morrow x3 and Nadeau with the goals.
Jan 5 Rockford L5-3 Khazheyev with the loss. Gunler, Nikita Pavlychev, and Robidas with the goals.

Chicago remains tied for 3rd in the AHL Central division, one point out of 2nd. Suzuki still leads the team in points and assists (3 Goals 20 Assists). Gunler, Robidas and Morrow are tied for the team lead in goals with 9.

Just 2 games this week Sat/Sun @Coachella Valley.

Chicago only gets to see a few teams outside of the Central division during the regular season... This season they play Coachella Valley/Bakersfield (Pacific Division), Cleveland (North Division) and Hershey (Atlantic division) 4 times each (2 at home, 2 on the road).

Yeah, I was never counting on anything different and never really understood why anyone else was.

Normally KHL players have been available after their season ends. So we could have signed Nikishin before the end of the playoffs.

I mean, fine ... but there was all sorts of weird speculation before the season started and none of it made any sense. Just let the guy get started with a training camp like a normal incoming player. Carolina's not going anywhere this post season anyway, barring a goalie getting molten lava hot.

Speaking of defense depth, right now I'm more interested to see how Morrow would look running the power play ... especially after a healthy dose of Ty Smith's meagre offerings. Remember, Walker is VERY comfortable playing on his off side, so it would be no issue 5v5 to play Morrow on the right on the 3rd pairing. We already shelter the crap out of that group anyway.

Burns ran PP1 at practice yesterday. I didn’t see who was running PP2, whether Burns and Smith swapped or if Walker was running it.
