2024 Draft

Any interest in Cole Hutson?
I've watched him play a fair amount. Smart player and very game. Not an offensive phenom like his brother, but safer defensively. I'd say he's somewhere between his brother Lane, and Jordan Harris. Leaning closer to Harris. We'll have to shield Lane eventually, especially facing big and fast teams. So I don't know if we have the stomach to pick another diminutive D-man, unless out of pure nepotism.

Catton already dreaming of Habs (he also mentions later that he weighs 175lbs)

«Je dirais qu’un trio avec moi, Kirby Dach et Juraj Slafkovsky pourrait être très dangereux. Deux gros et talentueux joueurs à qui je pourrais amener ma vision du jeu et mes habiletés [...] Ce serait une unité divertissante, je crois.»

At least he's self-aware. He acknowledges that he will need to play with two big forwards to to be an effective player in the NHL. That's a problem, however.

Nick will beat him up if he tries to seduce Juraj

Arpon on Demidov

Though the Canadiens were not high on Matvei Michkov last year, there is a sense that their opinion of Demidov is quite different. They would have no hesitation drafting him if he were available. He has one year left on his contract with SKA St. Petersburg and has refused to sign an extension, which could make that extra year in Russia troublesome, especially since Demidov has clearly demonstrated he has nothing left to prove in the junior MHL. But one year is not three years like it was for Michkov, and the sense is the Canadiens view Demidov as a far more complete player. In fact, a team source said, the Canadiens were able to get some live viewings of Demidov in Russia this season, which they were not able to do with Michkov.

Do we have an update on the severity of his knee injury

Yeah, good point. He only scored 116 points (most points for a draft eligible player in all of junior) due to the fact he was on a line with wingers 5'11", 181lb Chase Bertholet and 5'10" 186lb Conner Roulette. So he obviously needs big wingers to be effective. 🤣

IF no lottery ball bearing Celebrini, then Demigod…. have to admit Catton is growing on me. #justbeinghonest

Catton's skill profile and stats look similar to those of Marner (in a good way), the biggest question mark would be if he has the same intangibles.

Junior is a different beast

Tons of players who had great stats leading teams but many need to adjust to the NHL pro game

That’s the same point I’ve been trying to make…..some here make it sound like this guy is David Desharnais

As an aside, I heard Arpon mention he’d be surprised if the Habs drafted Catton and he’s linked them to the bigger forwards
