2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Yeah iminverted his bonus and salary in year 1 (salary was prorated bonus was not). Point stands though

He gave Willy what he wanted and only got the cap hit down because of a cap loophole.

And he gave him more than knies just got relatively.

Ok, boring.

What if...the Leafs took Pietro and his busted ass off Vegas' hands in the Marner deal and kept him on LTIR all year...? What would that be worth to them as part of a larger deal?

10 mil for Boeser? No thanks

And no thanks to Marchand at some of the contracts I’ve been seeing rumored.

When it comes to Marchand, with Tavares signing what he did, and Knies being reasonable too, does Marchand really try to come in and demand something stupid like double Tavares' salary when he's 3 years older and doesn't have 7 years with the team like Tavares does? That would kind of be a pretty big sign of disrespect coming in if he wants $8m or $9m.

If he is actually itching to be a Leaf, the last few days may pressure him to limit his demands. If he's of that mindset, maybe $6.5 or $7M x 3 years does the trick. He gets another $20m late in his career and gets to play for what he calls his favorite/childhood team. It would be so sweet to not just land Marchand, but also on a non-crazy contract.

I would guess that they probably are going to value Marchand at a decent amount less than Bennett, and so where does that leave him, at $6m over there, maybe $6.5m? If he's not getting some premium out of them, maybe his work there is done and he'd rather take $6.5m or $7m from us. Term may also be an issue with the Panthers, who may not want to give him 3-4 years whereas the Leafs might. But he won't know if he doesn't wait it out till Tuesday. Maybe he's got their best and final and wants to check out what the market brings shortly.

All depends on the Psychology of Brad Marchand and if he values getting max money more than returning to a nice situation.

He’s won two cups. He definitely likes money so some extra term we might give him could be important to him, not to mention endorsement opportunities up the wazoo. And he definitely loves the spotlight and has always had a chip on his shoulder trying to prove something to the world. Add in childhood team that is going to still be among the best and came one game away from beating him this year.

The challenge of getting his favorite team to the promised land while making more money to make up for his last deal that he felt was undermarket, might just be too enticing.

I still think Florida is most likely signing Marchand but it would be fun if they didn't.

11 million and they need 2 F, 2D, 1G.

Their top 4D at the moment is Forsling, Jones, Mikkola, Kulikov. They need to invest something into that. Throwing 7M at Marchand, 1.25 at Tarasov and then back filling the rest with 800K AHL fodder doesn't sound very Pantherish to me.
