2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Watching former Cane Andrej Nestrašil's younger bother Václav play for UMass, who are hosting my Cornell Big Red tonight. He was a Chicago first round pick and looks impressive.

Fensore and Kochetkov were recalled from Chicago. PK got the win last night, saving 22 of 23 shots against Toronto.

The Canes are practicing today before flying to New York. Slavin, Ghost, Miller, Robinson and Carrier are missing. And RBA put the lines in the blender

Kotkaniemi-Jankowski-Nadeau

Nikishin-Walker
Chatfield-Nystrom
Reilly-Legault
Fensore

Kochetkov
Andersen
Bussi

Edit: no changes to the PP units, now at 9.4% with 3 goals on 32 chances.

PP1: Aho, Ehlers, Jarvis, and Svechnikov with Walker
PP2: Blake, Hall, Nadeau, and Stankoven with Nikishin

After practice, RBA said he doesn’t anticipate Miller being out too much longer. Slavin is not quite there yet but everything is going in the right direction. And with 7 games in the next 12 days, they’re keeping all 3 goalies on the roster. Everyone else is a ways away.

No changes to the lines or pairings at practice today. Andersen is practicing after getting yesterday off, another benefit of having a competent #3 goalie.

I was wrong about no changes, Miller skated with Chatfield and is hopeful of playing tomorrow. No morning skate but I guess they’ll assess how he feels or he might take a few spins around the ice.

Apparently he was really close to going last night in New York, so that wouldn't be that big a surprise. In the meantime, Nikishin/Walker looks more and more like a decent combo with every game. They were both really good last night and there was less wild gesticulation directed at Boom from Walker.

About how many games does it take for other teams to accurately scout a goalie? 10 games? A full season? The book on Bussi has to be really thin right now.

Well, he's been banging around the AHL since 2022 and has played pre season games with both Boston and Florida. It's not like he's a Euro import. Teams have a book, it's just slimmer than on a guy like Freddie with over 500 NHL games on tape.

Based on play to date , Legault over Nystrom every time with that starting six.
