2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Ghost being back would be very helpful. That makes Fensore more of a hedge if Ghost isn't ready to go on Tuesday, which is fine.
Oddly, the Wolves have games on Tuesday and Wednesday, so they’ll be missing 2 dmen. That’s going to be status quo until one of Slavin or Miller returns, then they’ll only be down 1.

I wish we all would here some encouraging news on the big dog that wears #74! The world all seems a little bit more right when he's back patrolling the blue line.

  • Pleased with road trip and their ‘battle readiness’
  • Felt like we left with one team and came back with an entirely different team. (Joking about roster)
  • Miller close ‘for sure’
  • Slavin ‘a little ways away’
  • No clarification on Robinson and Carrier…no surgery needed but out more than a week. Rod says ‘to me, when a say a while, that’s a week “ to laughter
  • Ghost practiced and seems to be ok but not sure if he’s comfortable enough after 1 practice to play Tuesday.
  • Kooch will be ready ‘if not tomorrow, then very very soon’
  • Pp been making changes every game and that could also be the problem. Too many changes, but they will continue to make changes until they get it right.
  • Bussi ‘what an impact’ all his games have been great.
  • Nadeau getting a chance is great. Would have made team out of camp on most teams
  • Svech knows he needs to be better and he wears it on his sleeve. He knows he needs to be better and feels bad about it. Everyone looks at stat sheet but there are other aspects of his game that help the team.
  • Discussed the hand pass goal and no one still understands. Not Happy with explanation from NHL Good listen don’t feel like summarizing lol

In summary, Svech, the Canes PP and NHL officials all have to be better…place your bets on which happens first, the odds are not great on all three.

Well, Svech was money in the playoffs. In the regular season last year, he was pretty much exactly what he is right now. It HAS to be concerning even though I absolutely do NOT want to see every game turn into a referendum on one guy. God, but this fan base loves a freaking game to game reckoning for some reason.

Connor McDavid has only one goal this season. Time to trade him while his perceived value is still high? Seriously, I hope it's just a minor, nagging physical issue with Svech. It's only October so hopefully whatever is not going right with him gets straightened out by early January.

If I actually trusted Svech to not keep doing whatever it is he's been doing the last couple of years, then yeah. Put him back on the core asset shelf. But other than one stretch in the playoffs last season, he simply hasn't been that kind of player for going on 2 years. Suggesting it might be a good time to think about moving him is hardly a wild-eyed idea.

I've read some nonsense online about the Canes depth as a four line team hurting the likes of guys like Svech and even KK...what a load of fecal matter that is. Guys like Svech and KK are both being paid handsomely to play here and both have had ample opportunity to do their thing on numerous lines with ice time being rewarded as you produce. At the end of the day you have to be accountable for your own play and your own game, and when the production is not there of course the questions are going to be asked about what's going on. My only rub on Svech is his play seems to be best when he is a physically imposing beast that goes to the net hard to score goals, and when he does not play that style he is pretty much invisible and you cannot afford to have an almost $8 million dollar a year guy go invisible for long stretches.

If we’re trading Svech, we need a 2C
I suspect that if Carolina is open to trading Svech it would be for somebody similar ... high draft pick, high potential, enough production to back it up but mired in an unproductive spell, similar contract details. I don't think either team would do it (in the division, sorta a rival) but NYR might be open to that kind of move with Lafreniere. Just as an example. St Louis made some noise about moving Kyrou and/or Thomas last year and might open that door again if they stay out of the playoff picture this season. Svech would make a nice piece in that kind of move.

Note: I'm NOT suggesting any of those moves specifically. Just putting names to what I'm talking about. Anybody talking about dumping Svech for picks/prospects needs to give their head a shake.
