2026 Hurricanes Off Season Thread

Now I want some Curley's fries and a Kohr's Brothers cone. Many days spent at the Wildwood boardwalk with the kids when we lived in Cape May County in between our Wake County stints.
 
I really, really need somebody in the media to sit down with Tulsky and get the download on what the Canes’ involvement with Masters has been all about.

Also, this dude is 23 years old and has played in around 100 minor pro games. How the heck is he eligible to play college hockey at any level?

Canadian college rules have always been different. Derek Ryan played in the United Hockey League before playing at the University of Alberta.

There has been a lot of discussion surrounding professional basketball players enrolling in NCAa programs. Several players who played in the G-League, where salaries are collectively bargained, have enrolled in college. When the NCAA opened the door to CHL players, it probably opened the door to this happening here too.

Yeah, the new-ish 5 to play 5 NCAA eligibility rule will keep that from happening in the US going forward. I know the rules are different in Canada but I always assumed there was an age cutoff at some point. Dude’s a 23 year old veteran minor pro and doesn’t really seem to have any business playing college hockey at any level. I don’t really care, but this guy’s whole summer has been one weird development after another.
 
Ronan Seeley re-signed before arbitration, 1 year, 2 way $850K/$100k with a $160k guarantee.

That is the NHL minimum salary. He got an AHL raise (from $80k to $100k) AND he got a $160k minimum guarantee (that minimum is a new thing for him).

The AHL salary is 2nd highest on the team among players on 2 way contracts, only Sawchenko makes more at $150k. Sawchenko is also the only other player with a guarantee, his is $190k.

Bryce Montgomery’s AHL salary is $55k, lowest on the team. He also has $1 million in performance bonuses. For a guy who is probably in his last year in the organization that seems odd.
