I think the Isles overpaid. He's a free agent (and nowhere close to the top goalie in a market that will be full of goalies, Miller, Hiller, etc....) . Even Wiz got a fifth round pick when we traded him right before free agency.

He should stay the course...they're in a market where they can afford to be patient and suck and not feel the pressure.
They should just be stockpiling top prospects and they will get in a good spot eventually to be competitive.
They already have a very good young core, especially at center
Edmonton on the other hand should be looking to get better ASAP...they should be shopping their pick for immediate help

That's precisely what it is. They've been on TV down here making some pretty unrealistic promises of playoffs next season.

See here is somewhere I think the Panthers could do really well.
There is one defenceman at the top of this board. The oilers probably desperately want Ekblad.
Trade #1 for #3++
or
Trade #1 for a huge package to a team other than the oilers.
Make the two teams bid against each other, and maybe someone makes a huge offer.

Florida should just take Ekblad then tank again next year and hope for McDavid... they could be a Cup favourite within 4-5 years.
Barkov, Huberdeau, Ekblad, McDavid, Gudbranson, Bjugstad, Kulikov... could be a damn impressive core.

Yup, Barkov, huberdeau, Bjustad at center is very good..young skilled and with size.
They take Ekblad along with Gudbranson and kulikov and they they key pices to a great rebuild in place.
You have your top three cenetrs and your top two dmen nailed down for years to come....and all have size

Who said anything about the Oilers? They have a bunch of young, skilled, small forwards.... and nobody remotely close to McDavid level... nor do they have a beast like Ekblad on the back end.
If Florida takes Ekblad then get McDavid they are way ahead of the Oilers.
