Around The League - 2016 Playoffs

Meanwhile, Thornton scored to open the score up.

Another guy with a crazy good year that was hidden because of where he plays.

Then there are only a handful of defensemen that should ever be considered "great", then. Lidstrom wasn't simply "great", he was all time great, he was epic. He was better than great.

Brent Burns, like virtually every other great d-men, especially the ones in this league right now, is superb offensively while having wholes defensively.
that's not being a great Dman then - Dman are actually supposed to be able to play defense first & foremost, what these guys are are rovers, a 4th forward on the ice, who just happen to occupy a D-spot.

And yes there are only a handful of "great Dman" - great is about revolutionizing the game. Harvey, Orr, Lidstrom.

TV ratings down 61% NHL and Rogers/Sportsnet are apparently in shock - only some 500K Canadians are tuning in. Traditional data suggests: ratings steeply decrease each round after the first round......things will get a whole lot worse.

As much as we love the game its a regional sport plain and simple . Once your team especially CDN teams are out , few tune in. I have probably watched a few periods of playoff hockey and dont miss it all with our boys out.

does this affect HRR for next years cap ?

Nope, but it does affect Rogers' bottom line as they can't charge the same $$$ for advertisers.

St. Louis might actually come through and beat the Blues this year.

And my boy The Snowman was in full gear tonight.

Drouin coming alive for Tampa. We may have missed our chance-not that we were ever close perhaps and the price may have been too high I suppose. Still, was it ever even discussed I wonder.

I would have taken Drouin over Mackinnon in the draft after watching both here in Halifax a fair bit. That may seem ridiculous now.....but wait?

The Habs apparently made a very serious offer for Drouin, only to be told no. I don't remember if it was Darren Dreger or Bob McKenzie that said it on one of those radio hits.

So Andrew Shaw is probably going to be suspended for saying gay a couple of times.

Wouldn't it be hilarious and so NHL that he would be suspended longer than Pierre-Luc Bellemare & his hit on Orlov?

This isn't shocking at all.

Even the people watching the games are doing it out of principle or boredom. No one really cares about hockey right now.
