Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

Lol. I think the rest of the NHL realizes the many flaws that Petry has.

He had his best year last year . A RH shot D with 2 more years at 5.5 , that’s a gold contract to trade

Max had bigger flaws , a floater and playoff loser coming off a bad season .

We fooked up holding onto him .

Maybe. It's the player I keep flip flopping on. For most of the past 3 years, he's been our #1 D and he seemed to get better each year. With his skating ability, he could be effective for many more years.

I'm sure we could get a haul for him, but I'm also not sure if we're not better resigning him. We don't have any replacement for him at the moment.

Why bother overpaying him at 34 by then , unless he settles on a 1-2 year deal at less money

Given Habs dichotomy of rebuilding while trying to make playoff push, do wonder if it might make sense to deal Petry and acquire Vatanen as the backfill for the push.

Petry should be able to net a 1st + at least one young asset (Kapanen?) from a team like the Leafs who may become desperate as the deadline approaches - perhaps more if Habs can find ways to alleviate some of Leafs cap pressure.

Acquisition cost for Vatanen should be significantly less (maybe a 2nd rounder should a bidding war present itself) with Hall deal setting the market, theoretically anyways....

0 points for PK Subban in the last 20 games.

It's rock bottom.

To be honest I never like just looking at numbers to evaluate a player but in this case the eye test doesn't lie also.

He just doesn't have the mobility he once had and his skating has also declined.

His best asset was his "escapability" from forecheckers with his quickness and mobility, that's just not there.

It's a really dramatic decline

Nero knew what he was doing :geek:

Entertaining tilt between Landeskog and Gilbert.

Evenly matched, some uppercuts and a no-quit attitude from both players 👌

Yup, that's how it usually goes with Laviolette. He'll get great results, but his message eventually runs dry.

I think he'll be back in the NHL before next season.
