Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

You didn’t need to attach a first rounder , plain and simple
Carolina traded for Marleau's contract specifically to gain the attached first round pick. So, yeah ... in the case of the trade that actually happened instead of some hypothetical scenario ... you DID have to include the first rounder.

No surprise at all , Harris who owns the Sixers as well is a nut bar owner who probably wanted immediate success on a rebuilding team and Shero most likely wanted to build the team properly. Harris hired Brand and still has Brown who is a terrible coach .

You can do all this shit in a market like NJ with little to no scrutiny, its actually a beautiful thing

Nope - Harris is a brilliant hedge fund guy like Vinik (TBay), NJD are losing $ hands over fist, and he was patient giving the 👍 for tanking....

It’s a business first and foremost.

Matthew at home: 22GP Home: 24 goals
Matthews on the road: 24GP Road: 7 goals

Don’t know the stats but is that disparity a result of being able to a lot Matthews vs weaker line matchups at home?

Or often having to face the top checking lines from other teams when on the ice. (I don't know the stats either, just spitballing)

I'd assume that most players score more on homeice than on the road simply because of the easier match-ups.

The business hockey club isn’t good enough to fire Shero after a short tenure . The team was probably losing money every year firing Shero wasn’t going to change that .

If he expected good results with this team he is dreaming , Nico and Jack are too raw to impact this team and then they flipped Hall signalling more rebuilding is needed .

Sixers are always in transition and never stable changing regimes and making dumb player moves

He seems more of a David Tepper results now type to me .

Harris is a big time analytics guy coming from his heavy use of analytics for hedge fund management. If Leafs have any success in the playoffs I wouldn’t be shocked if the GM for Devils is a young analytics type.

?? Tepper just set up his NFL team for a gut and rebuild. How is he a "results now" guy all of a sudden?

A gut rebuild in the NFL can be done in 2 years if done right at the draft and free agency

Solid upper management like the Ravens who are elite at the draft can do it quick and stay good for years .

You could fill your holes easier in UFA with a near 200 mil cap and no full guarantee deals

My opinion of Tepper is he wants to win now with his massive price for the team , and will do whatever it takes

Last time I checked spread sheets and coloured charts don't win cups . How long has Chayka been tweaking in Zona and flip flopping between youth and vets looking for the right mix

I hope he gives Hall an 8 year deal and looks silly in years 4-8

And what it will take is a gut and rebuild, which will take two or three years even If they handle things well, which given Marty Hurney's history is unlikely. All of which adds up to something different than "now" or anything close to it. Dude wants to win, sure. But he's talked a lot about being willing to build the team culture to do it long term ... which again, is not a "win now" sort of deal.

Morgan Rielly out at least 8 weeks with fractured foot. The dynasty that never was.

Muzzin should be back soon so they may not need to burn a year of ELC with Sandin

He needs 4 more games and with their bye week might ne able to do it
