Around the League: 2019-2020 Regular Season

No Marleau was clearly the issue. You don't overpay for supporting talent like that.
Mind explaining what those multiple assets were Carolina would have accepted for Marleau?

Your wrong , you had a 6 mil Marleau on your hands . You don’t double down with an 11 mil JT , a player you didn’t need.

Dubas figured the kids would give you a hometown discount , gross mistake .

Your situation was unique , you had star talent to pay . Regime had to understand the internal cap consequences

You make the deal bigger with Carolina or any other team . Your dangling an expiring contract , that has value.

You had the first rounder to throw in plus young assets like Kap , Willy, or AJ to throw into the mix .

TB was capped out and they get the first for Miller. They are in worse shape cap wise than the Leafs

WTF did Dubas get out of that trade when they were cap strapped , a 6th rounder.

Even the Kadri deal was dumb. You had this gold contract to dangle and you got an expiring D whose skill set you didn’t need and a third liner in Kerfoot and you gave nearly the same money as a Kadri.

Barrie is as good as gone and you got no long term upside for this great contract.

Kadri should of netted you a Pacioretty type deal involving an A level prospect in return .

How the fuck can you be capped out barely 3 years into a rebuild , that’s poor cap management

I've been told that Carolina almost walked away from the Marleau deal when Toronto added Top 10 protection to the pick. No possible way they casually throw in a defenseman just to help out the Leafs. That was a purchase of a 1st round pick for them. Nothing more, nothing less. If the price got too high, they'd have walked.

You seem... really worked up over this for some reason.

So they don't need JT but they needed Marleau more? Marleau is 40. It was a HORRIBLE bust of a signing by Lou. To put it in perspective, JT is 34 his last year of the deal.. Marleau was signed 38-40 years. And why the hell would the Leafs give up Kapanen or Johnsson for Marleau?
JT had 47 goals in his first year. Is that not neded?

Dubas figured nothing. Dubas said he would sign everyone and did despite almost everyone saying he could not accomplish that.

I like the irony of saying Marleau and Zaitsev deals aren't that bad and then going into a rant of how important it is to sign good deals for the cap.

FYI, 16 of 31 teams are at 500K or less from the cap max. Vegas has no cap 3 years into their existence. You should understand in a cap world if you draft very well in the top 10 you will be capped out in no time. Once Leafs hit on all their top 10 picks 3 years in a row this would happen. It hasn't occurred to a team like Arizona because they have missed on some top 10 picks.

Pretty simple.

Oh and Kadri netted the Leafs a 60+ point star offensive D (With 50% cap retained) and a forward who's 4 years younger, 1 million per cheaper and signed 1 year longer who had comparable stats last year with less usage.

Its very simple we disagree ... move on

Marleau was a dumb signign from the beginning. I guess Lou wanted to bring some veteran leadership but the contract was bad.

Seattle is arriving and the new U.S tv deal is coming up.
it’s a longer term trend, hockey enrollments been down for years, there’s less and less interest in the game from younger generations...curious how CDN teams ownerships will respond and if they view this as a threat...

Akim Aliu alleges that Bill Peters called him a nigger multiple times when he was a 20 year old in the AHL.

As expected, Bill Peters is already guilty in the Twitter court of public opinion before he can ever say his side of the story.

Unless USA Hockey hires him......

(vanbiesbrouck)

But yes once others came forward it was over for Peters as it should be

Now lets see what else comes out about other coaches

this could be a shit show if more speak up with any insulting remarks

The stories I heard from the 70-80`s are crazy

Might as well fire everyone

any type of organization, school or program will not hire Peters...impossible to not have any kind of backlash if he’s hired.

he’s done
