A good rule to live by as an NHL GM is that you should never, ever be the guy handing out a huge UFA deal or coughing up prime trade assets in exchange for a Cup winner’s over-hyped third-line hero.

Honestly can’t think of any situation where it’s ever worked out. Byfuglien is probably the one example in recent history that worked out the best, but even he never had any real team success as a bus driver instead of a bus rider.

Also Chicago had him splitting time at fwd and hey it turned out he was a 25 mpg 60 point dman.
 
Let's see how a much shittier coach does with that terrible roster. I guess Trotz gets fired because he made the team horribly overachieve for 3 years.
 
That roster is built to only win with a top defensive coach. They can't win based on skill. this makes 0 sense unless Barzal is fed up with the system costing him millions potentially and wanted out.
 
Haha, wtf? Lou really does have the itchiest trigger finger where his coaches are concerned, doesn’t he?

All he did was take a perpetual tire fire of a franchise with a mediocre roster on multiple deep playoff runs.
