Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Bettman is paid to appease the owners, who's only concern is increasing the value of their franchises. The vast majority, a solid core of probably 20 teams have seen healthy growth, and they get to decide the direction of the league - who gets a team, how much etc...

Exactly. He doesn't work for the fans.

One of these days he'll realized that entertained fans leads to more fans, which leads to more revenue and thus higher franchise values.

Rememer than time when the national broadcast deal in the states was with OLN?

effective multi-tasking is a myth.

the PVR, pause, go do things, then watch is one of the best tricks around. I did that for most of the Raps title run truth be told.
Yeah, that's what gets me by.

And as for the effective multi-tasking myth, it's beyond baloney. I know people that will insist on eating at their desks so they can continue to get work done. To me that's sheer idiocy. Unless you're taking bites during a phone call, if you're actually trying to work (in my world at least), you can't break your focus every 30 seconds with another bite. So I never eat at my desk, always outside for lunch, and devote my time to that while I do it and then go back. Otherwise you're a fucking robot getting some grease for your creaky parts at around noon every day.

Did you say once that you get NHL Network on ESPN+?

I'm about to cut the cord and planning to do the full Hulu package, so it's in there somewhere? Because when I try to look it up, I don't see it listed anywhere.

Sure. But again that's for the owners.

I know the way the league should be run but its really a nepotistic club that only cares about bottom lines and optics.

This.
I was stunned they allowed the dead puck era to go so long. It actually started right after Bettman came in charge. There is no league that would have allowed scoring to drop like that.

LOL…Hyman on the Olympic team? Shades of plugs like Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Rob Zamuner & Shayne Corson getting on the team over the years.

And I can only imagine the peals of laughter that would’ve greeted that suggestion while Hyman was still a Leaf.

I remember when they cut off games in OT to turn to regularly scheduled fishing broadcasts. Now that was fun.

Not to mention when there was the occasional Leaf game that wasn’t even televised at all.

And games on the equivalent of community access channels (The New VR, CHCH).

The worst was, this was a time when there was no alternative.

I paid for the fucking NHL package, but it would be blacked out when the local OLN cable channel had it, and then fucking OLN would switch to fishing and there was literally no way to see the end of the game.

The new VR broadcast every game of the... 1996? Quebec peewee tournament featuring mark Giordano and the Richmond Hill stars doing the unthinkable and beating kovalchuk's Moscow and making the finals, only to lose to Ryan Whitney's Boston South Shore Kings. With a young Preston looking on sitting front row being shown multiple times in every fucking game looking all goofy.
