i get it but they just decided to pay him like a #1D and he's literally always been sheltered behind 3 tough matchup guys in Hedman, McDonagh, Cernak.....and just been good in that sheltered role, not great.

Sorry I need to acknowledge when he's correct. The contract was puzzling, with little upside and some risk! Best case he develops into something that may be worth his contract! That's not value!!!

still a humongous risk to take on what I consider a still very unproven D-man.

they need a McD replacement, who was their matchup guy for years, and Sergy has no track record that would suggest he can adequately fill that role.

I was honestly quite shocked with the contract and think it ends badly for Tampa. But who knows, he is still young enough he could develop further into a legit shutdown guy.
