Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Winning one round > winning no rounds

…just like:

Making the playoffs > missing the playoffs

Pretty simple stuff. But hey, I get that “everybody who doesn’t win the Cup sucks equally” is a coping mechanism for disappointment that works for some, so more power to you.

hey i'll grant you that making the finals or even an epic confrerence finals loss might be enough to dispel the mockery but even that's pretty questionable.

wining the first round won't make any difference at all tho.

I like and respect Dom more than just about any of the other twitterites, but I feel like everyone does this every few years.

It's easy to get excited about the young guys on the Sabres, there's some goofy numbers up there right now...but people need to chill

Cozens: career 9% shooter, current 13.4%. Career 9.5 oish....currently 15 point fucking 8%
Skinner: career 11% shooter, currently 16.3%. Career 9.3 oish, currently 14.4%
Tuch: career 10.6% shooter, currently 16.9%. Career 10.3 oish, currently 14.4%
Tage is shooting 17.5% but that might be legit. Was 15.0% last season. But his 15.7% oish is not legit.
Olofsson is shooting 19.4% right now (career ~13%)
Rasmus Dahlin is shooting over 10%...pretty obscene for a defender. 14.5% oish.

Basically everyone important on their roster is putting up SH% & OISH% 20-40% higher than normal. All of that while getting .922 goaltending from a 41 yr old, and even if they lock down the win tonight, they're on an 87 point pace.

They're still bad, but at least they have a core that's probably worth building around now.

Tage Thompson becoming the a top 10 player in the league changes things for them. They have way more high end talent than Ottawa and Detroit who people were so excited about.

Sure, Dahlin's offense is probably a touch unsustainable at the moment, but the guy is an all situation monster.

He will be battling Makar for Norris votes for the next number of years and it wouldn't surprise me if he wins more than he loses there.

Yep. They have elite talent you build around. They will be good. Just not there yet.

Every division is full of them. There’s only one or two decent guys every year and they change every year, because deep down they’re assholes too.
