He was in his D+4 season before he was ready for even middle 6 duty. A couple years of that and he broke out in his mid 20's as a consistent 60+ point guy for Carolina.

Not sure what’s gained wasting a year of his ELC for him to be a fourth line bum on a shit team instead of getting more opportunity in an environment where he will experience more success, personally and likely as a team.

Just another distraction the media wants to focus on. I never expected a Matthews type player but I still think 30/70 isn't out of the question. Weak drafts suck.
 
P.Dubois (24): 40gms, 39gl/96pt pace

N.Suzuki (23): 41gms, 30gl/68pt pace
Kotkaniemi (22): 40gms, 12gl/27pt pace


Still would have been the right trade imo. Could probably have signed Dubois to the same contract as Suzuki too.

Feel like maybe they feel it necessary to play a 1st overall right out of the gate, lest there be murmurings of him being a disappointing pick.

That means the Leafs officially move into 2nd place overall, here at the exact halfway point of the season.

Not bad.

That means there's only one objective left in the 2nd half - hunting down the Bruins.

1. Can't afford any more slumps like October at all.
2. Gonna need Boston to have one slump like that. (pretty likely tbh).
3. Stay healthier than we were in the 1st half.
4. Papi gotta go into overdrive again.
5. Have to win all three head to heads against the Bruins in regulation.
 
They aren't actually as good as that. They are taking care of business though.

I don't worry about matching them in a series.

But I'd fricken love to get an easier first round.
 
I like Ullmark as much as anyone here and pretty vocally wanted him a few deadlines ago...

....but....

Dude is not a .940 goaltender. There will be regression.
