Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

I think looking at it as a lack of toughness thing is going to lead to more mistakes here.

Toughness or not - this is exactly the situation they were in before they signed Kane, and I'd bet that their numbers look very similar to when they were treading water before they signed him midseason last year.

He just named the two worst D for the Habs. Barron has only played 4 games though.
Dude they may be the worst but they're not far from the rest.

Fine use Edmundson then, great numbers for a top D. I wish Holland would give us his first for that clown.

Was curious with a bit of data in whether the Habs #1 overall pick was the right one, or whether it was just a shit draft and they got the best of a bad bunch.

Name - League/PPG - Closest statistical comparables

1) Slafkovsky W - NHL .28ppg - Jess Puljujarvi, Radek Bonk, Owen Nolan, Tyler Seguin
2) Nemec D - AHL .46ppg - Moritz Seider, Liljegren, Sandin, Voynov
3) Cooley C- NCAA 1.29ppg - Phil Kessel, Larkin, Toews, Newhook
4) Wright C - NHL/AHL Incomplete due to being fucked about by his club
5) Cutter Gauthier W - NCAA 1.29ppg - Phil Kessel, Larkin, Toews, Newhook
6) Jiricek D - AHL 1.05ppg - Q Hughes, O Power, A Fox, J Johnson, R Hainsey
7) Korchinksi D - WHL 1.36ppg - O Zellweger, Bryan McCabe, J Morrissey
8) Kasper W - SHL .47ppg - Hallander, Lias Andersson, Soderstrom, Patrick Sundstrom, Zibanejad
9) Matt Savoie W - WHL 1.37ppg - Dillon Dube, B Gallagher, Fraser Minten (6 months older though)
10) Mintyukov D - OHL 1.46ppg - A DeAngelo, Wisniewski, PK Subban

After taking a quickl look, I think Jiricek was probably taken too low and should have been in the conversation for #1. 6'3 RHD with the offensive skills to do this shouldn't have been overlooked like this in a draft that lacked elite talent. No real misses so far in the top 10 though, even Kasper has some impact comparables that are reasonable best case scenarios for an 8th overall pick.

Slafkovsky is looking like a miss at the #1 though.

If ppg is your sole metric then yes.

Until recently they saddled him with the worst plumbers on the team (pezzetta, Dadonov, Evans) and they're working on his defensive awareness and situational hockey.

The Habs real issue is coaching. They don't have it. They have nice guy Marty who played under Cooper but is not Cooper.

Burrows is throwing shit to the wall shift by shift and the ingame adjustments are so bad people will think it's an intentional tank.

This is a side show while HuGo work behind the scenes. Give the fans nice guy Marty (who had to apologize for his very rusty French) and a first overall to look at and keep buying beers and condos, don't look over here.

Slafkovsky is exhibiting strength of character and has played better of late since being moved to Dvorak and Anderson line. I'm really not concerned for the kid. If I had a do over I probably go Nemec. It wouldn't be Wright and let's face it, at the time the only two choices were Wright or Slafkovsky.

In case you're wondering, the coaching in Laval is even worse.

lol, this will go well. brave man :D

in retrospect, both teams should've really had slaf and wright not in the nhl to start imo

In retrospect he needed to be sent to the OHL (Kitchener) to learn the north American game but it's a side show. Something shiny for their fans to look at.

The choice wasn't Laval, the coaching their isn't that good.

Habs got #1 in a terrible year. You must tank in the right years.

I just wish Kane and Toews would get off their asses and Chicago to go on a little heater. 4-5 game point streak.

Looks like they finally got the memo. If they change a single thing I'll be pissed. Change after the draft.

30th is doable.

It's best to prepare and plan for 4-5 years out in the wilderness. Over a 5 year period we drafted

5th - Rielly
21st - Gauthier
8th - Nylander
4th - Marner
1st - Matthews

You guys are 1 year of ~5 in. Now, you probably whiffed on the #1 pick, which hurts, but whatever. It's a long process.

I think that could be shortened by a year should Florida continue to flounder and the hockey Gods smile upon us in the lottery. No not a rebuilding strategy but it is where we sit at the moment.

Not biting man. Maybe Wehave will.

I'm remaining positive on the big Slovak.

These fantasy trades by the media are embarrassing. No one is giving 2 1sts for O'Rielly LOL. It's not a sellers market at all. And Chychrun still hasn't been moved. No one is meeting those demands.
