Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

My main hesitation with Crouse is that I'd prefer they add a line driver. He's more of a super elite complementary guy... Which is fantastic too and needed. But one more legit line driver would be nice and I'm not convinced he is that. The data supports that he's a solid hockey player tho.Lets not pretend he's not.

It's not the sexy names that we're looking for, but if we put them in the 2 categories they would be covering for us:

Centres: Horvat is gone, ROR looks like junk this year, Toews looks like junk this year and both carry significant cap hits. Larkin is probably a wet dream at best. After that who is even available? Bonino, Acciari, Monahan?

LW: Meier will have big cost and isn't much better at all 5v5. You're only getting the full Timo Meier experience if you're moving Tavares off that 1st PP unit. JVR?...lol.

If the Leafs’ deadline consists of them adding Crouse and Bjugstad, I expect Dubas to receive a congratulatory phone call from Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins for finding the sweet spot of shared risk.

Yeah, I'm fine with this take and open to prioritizing a 3C line driver over Crouse, who is definitely more as you put it, a super elite complimentary guy.

Eh, Crouse has almost double the production over the ~100 games prior to a potential trade as Lehkonen had over his prior ~100 games and Lehkonen was expiring at the end of the year. He then re-upped for a bit more money than Crouse makes despite the lesser offensive track record.

Fwiw, I never said Knies + for Crouse alone. I didn't lay it all out today, but in previous discussions on this I've suggested that to get Knies, Arizona would probably eat some salary. Knies is worth more to that team than any other in the league.
