Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Chance to get a guy like Meier - 26 years old, PPG player, probably breezes past 40 goals - is sort of once in a blue moon. If he can be had, and retained by using the RFA status to leverage into a long term deal, that is by far and away the best move he can make. While he doesn't have term, RFA status is the next best thing. Let the market thin out as they go for Horvat now and a few of the other bigger names, and then dive in like a boss and win the deadline game.

Meier might have more of a market than you think though. He holds the hammer with the 10 million dollar QO, but if he's interested in an 8 yr deal at 9-9.5, I could see a bunch of teams lining up to get him now.

I'm still hoping for this guy for way, way cheaper:

Timo Meier vs mystery guy

Meier: 1.22 G/60, 2.14 P/60, 1.75 P1/60
Mystery Guy: 1.03 G/60, 2.26 P/60, 1.95 P1/60

Unless we're willing to punt one of the big 4 off of the 1st PP unit, there's no sense paying big in acquisition cost and cap to bring in a big name. It's diminishing returns. Go get someone who produces well in 5v5 minutes that fills our needs for cheaper.

I understand what it is... players have nothing to do with the deals that the league negotiates. Owners should take 100% of the hit for the shitty business deals they make. If players sign endorsement deals with terrible vendors who go bankrupt that does not effect the owners at all.
If your place of work loses a shit ton of money job losses are inevitable

This is a CBA based on sharing revenue , the risk is on both sides

A players extra revenue from endorsement deals have squat to do with HRR

Guaranteed deals vs non guaranteed. If the owners can keep all of the expansions fees and not have franchise value increases brought into HRR then they can eat these losses, which I'm surprised these deals are not insured.

I'm all for going with value add, but I'm not sure Crouse comes cheap. You could probably get the same player, that is 6'0 for half the trade cost.

Crouse. I'm still of the attitude that the best move we can make given what's likely to be available is Crouse + Bjugstad if the cost is something like Knies + 4th.

It's not the sexy names that we're looking for, but if we put them in the 2 categories they would be covering for us:

Centres: Horvat is gone, ROR looks like junk this year, Toews looks like junk this year and both carry significant cap hits. Larkin is probably a wet dream at best. After that who is even available? Bonino, Acciari, Monahan?

LW: Meier will have big cost and isn't much better at all 5v5. You're only getting the full Timo Meier experience if you're moving Tavares off that 1st PP unit. JVR?...lol.

Large size has become a market inefficiency on this forum. Why is everyone so afraid of acquiring the dude just because he's big? I'm open minded to it, personally.

I'm okay with this as long as they're actually "the same player". I completely get why the pre draft Crouse shit turned a bunch of people against him, I'm definitely one of the main pushers of the "fuck the hockey media" narrative here. But dude has turned into a really nice 2LW over the last 2 years.

and yeah, I'm only down because I consider a B+ at best prospect for him under cheapish control for the next few years to be cheap.

My source says JVR
