Sounds like this poor dude may never be allowed to leave.
I am wondering if it comes to this and Tre decides to move Mitchy boy for the final year of McJesus. Edmonton would be hard pressed to get a better player as the main return. The off-season before the final year of that deal is when the fireworks will start. Because there’s no chance he’s extending early, will play out the season like Tavares did, and there’s going to be tons of talk about whether they should trade him even though they’re probably going to be competitive. Man, the boos when he plays on the Leafs and they visit Edmonton are going to be earthshaking.
Marner’s full NTC kicked in July 1st for the final 2 years of his contract.I am wondering if it comes to this and Tre decides to move Mitchy boy for the final year of McJesus. Edmonton would be hard pressed to get a better player as the main return.
Better yet... if Marner asks for something absolutely ridiculous... would a swap for Drais be available? I don't see Drai reupping at close to 8.5 and even then wanting to stay in Edmonton.
Get Drai first and then sign Connor as a UFA.
Especially since he might want to leave Vancouver now.His underlyings were pretty dominant at ages 20 and 21 before his injury. It was pretty sad to see him look almost washed up at 23. Very happy to see him come back strong and fully recovered now. He's amazing.
Would you offer a trade of Nylander for Petterson? there's your second line C. Move JT to 3 or the wing.
I love how McDavids and Pettersons can come flat out and say they're not sure they're signing another contract with their team (and tkachuks even demand out) and they'll receive 1/10th the angst we get despite Matthews Marner and Nylander keep consistently saying they never want to leave.
I also think they do it for a non Leaf fans as well. They eat that stuff up.At this point it's the fanbases fault for falling for it. That the volume is higher in Toronto due to the media concentration should be normal to us at this point.
The selling team never gets value in these deals. He's a RFA at the end of this season, so Vancouver still has a year of control left after this. Now, who the fuck knows what creativity that clown show is capable of when it comes to scoring own goals, but if they do feel forced into trading Petterson, they're going to want (and get) a lot for him. I don't think Willy (who if under control, will have a NMC) is the trade piece there....I don't think we have the trade pieces to get a Petterson.
Now, with that said, I fully expect Vancouver to bet on themselves and lose him to free agency rather than realize now that they need to trade him because they're nowhere near being competitive, so there's always the chance that we can just be patient and scoop him in free agency.
