Do players leave contenders though?Like is it because you don't follow hockey that you don't realize the players waive NMCs all the time?
I dunno, I think you do follow hockey - so what is the explanation for not realizing it? it's bizarre.

I mean, these are 2 of the weakest strawmen arguments I've ever seen. It's amazing the special rules leafs fans convince themselves apply only to their leafs.
They've already forgotten that they spent years convinced that Mathews was leaving.
Do players leave contenders though?
I don't have them on speed dial.ask the Lightning.
(spoiler: yes, all the time)
You keep saying this, but can you think of any examples of Leafs who’ve waived NMC’s or NTC’s?
‘Cos I can think of a bunch of examples of guys who refused to waive, but not the other way around. Kadri, Sundin and the rest of the stupidly-named “Muskoka 5”.
Phil & Dion both had NTC’s that covered all but 8-10 teams. The Leafs then traded both to teams on their small trade lists—suggesting that either they explicitly refused to waive their NTC’s, or the Leafs didn’t believe they would if asked and didn’t bother.
do you not find it at all funny that 3 of the 4 leafs you just mentioned in this post were traded with NMC/NTCs?
and that whole muskoka 5 thing was a completely different scenario anyways - that was a leafs team with a bunch of impending UFAs who wanted to blow it up at the deadline and rebuild, when they thought they could still make the playoffs. Not a contender in need of capspace.
in our current scenario, Tavares would literally be fucking over all his teammates, which is completely different.
I'm pretty sure everyone, including Tavares, would consider it fucking the team over if they have a chance to use his capspace on a young franchise piece and he blocks it just because he has one year left on his deal.
I can only imagine how he’s chomping at the bit to fuck the Leafs over by maybe even scoring 40 this year! Sweet, sweet sabotage!the best argument you guys have come up with is that he will deliberately sabotage the team he wants to retire with, and make it MORE likely that he has to uproot his poor beloved family longterm.
not a very good argument tbh.
See: the previous eight pagesyou have it backwards - the onus is on you to convince normal people that Tavares would refuse to waive his NMC.
No, that’s the argument you need to focus on to avoid addressing all the other points that have already been made.the best argument you guys have come up with is that he will deliberately sabotage the team he wants to retire with, and make it MORE likely that he has to uproot his poor beloved family longterm.
