Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

So, uh, when is CBJ ownership going to realize that the Finnish Bond villain is a fraud and probably shouldn't be the guy in charge?

He's been in charge there for a decade and has been consistently terrible. Makes The Charlantan (Marc Bergevin) look like a genious in comparison.

yeah he's been legit horrendous.

Their minor league system looks really good to me. Should be competitive sooner rather than later. The Babcock hire always did seem like an odd choice, though.
To an extent, but I don't give him much credit for that. The reason the farm system is looking better is because he ran the team into the ground.

Teams that consistently sell players for picks/prospects generally have a better prospect pool and while Kekolainen has a scouting background (of which I have no qualms with), he's not the one scouting.

He deserves props for breaking this story and then doubling down on it. When Jenner, Gaudreau and Babcock & the Blue Jackets made their statements, some hockey twitter types took the opportunity to shit all over his credibility.

Biz looking like the best weapon and best asset the PA has ever had. Good on him for speaking up.
This is, in a nutshell, the problem with hockey culture.

It's full of people who are scared to rock the boat, despite having job security.

Funny how the NFL folk keep talking about avoiding distractions, yet the sport with the least amount of job security is full of distractions.

Meanwhile, in hockey...

I'm also not sure the prospect pool is as good as it should be for a team that hasn't been competitively relevant for a while.

Fantilli is real gud, but I don't think he's program changing good. Probably a good 1C, which is a hell of a nice piece but there needs to be more and other than Jiricek I don't see a lot of star level upside here. I know Jackets fans are high on Brindley & Mateychuk but I don't see a whole lot of difference between their performance and kids we like but aren't hyping at all like Moldenhauer & Villeneuve. Dumais might be a thing, but I refuse to take performance in the Q seriously anymore.

I like Fantilli & Jiricek a lot, but it's basically those 2 and Kent Johnson on an island. I'm sure there's a few more players in their system that will grow into the league eventually, but it's not a system that is exploding with talent and has a contending generation coming through or something.

I've started changing my views on prospects rankings the last few years. I like Columbus's prospect pool much more than my Habs, for example.

The vast majority of prospects don't pan out, but of the ones they have, do they have impact prospects? They have at least three in Fantilli, Jiricek & Johnson. You can build around those three as your #1 & #2 centers, and maybe a first pairing d-man.

That's the only thing I really care about in the rankings. To me, it's Reinbacher / Slafkovsky / Hutson compared to Fantilli / Jiricek / Johnson. I'll take Columbus's 3 players over ours without hesitation.

The rest are a bunch of TBD prospects that every other organization has. Some will inevitably make it, most won't.
