Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Also, this clearly indicates that it wasn't as simple as new coach trading family pictures with his veteran gud pro captain.

This was Babcock being Babcock, looking for ammo to control and manipulate with later.

Targeting young and vulnerable players is also kind of his M.O.

So of course he didn’t pick on the veteran gud pro captain, or Johnny Gaudreau.

I really thought this was over after the BJ's players spoke-up for Babs. There's going to be a lot of ex players that want to speak about him.

and again, just to zoom out a bit and get some perspective.

picture your workplace. you have a new manager hired. on your first meeting with this manager, they ask/demand/request to see photos off your personal phone. I'd argue the demand is unreasonable, no matter how you respond.

do you comply so as not to seem difficult? then you have your boss invading your privacy looking through your private photos.

do you say no and risk alienating the new boss on their first day?

it just puts the worker in a lose-lose situation. and would be completely inappropriate in most any other context.

plus, given what we know about babs and as presto so succinctly put it, his psychotic tendencies...

It's a stupid act. He doesn't care about anyone's family. It's mind-games for when he humiliates you.
That said, if he kindly asked to see pics of your family after a conversation to get to know you, that seems fine. It really depends on how and when he asked.
The entire thing though is dumb. I have co-workers I've known for years and I have never seen pics of their family or even know their families' names. I actually prefer people know very little about me I work with. That might explain my Twitter.
Also, there's sometimes things going on behind the scenes that you can bring-up that can upset people.. Like when people ask "Do you have kids"?

I don't see how any of this stuff helps a team in any way. Just coach.

It kinda seems to be his MO to just pick out a few guys to really go after - Franzen, Commodore, rookie Marner, and we didn't hear anything from Chelios and Franzen til 2019, three years after he retired.

So it really doesn't surprise me that there's some players willing to make a statement about the guy who's going to be coaching them this year.

Yes, "it depends on how he asked" but if it has made multiple people uncomfortable then I highly doubt there is much innocence here. No one liked him in Detroit, few liked him in Toronto, and he's already causing shit in Columbus. A friendly "hey let's have a wholesome moment and share family photo" thing would not result in this drama. There was obviously nothing friendly about it.

so I don't think it depends on how he asked. I think it is inappropriate for your employer to ask you to show personal photographs from your phone, period.

totally different if someone volunteers a photo after a discussion. I've shown photos of our furbabies to my colleagues, but on my terms, not theirs.

like don't we have courts saying that our personal information on our cell phones is worthy of Charter protections? fuck right off babs.
