Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Eh, Detroit and the Isles are both 3 points up with a game in hand.

With 15 games left (and Jersey 1 point back of them), that's pretty close to toast. 84 point pace overall, meh.

They play Detroit tomorrow night. They need to win that. Going down 5 points of WC2, Detroit with a game in hand and only 14 games left would be lights out.
Detroit has lost 7 in a row. They may not even make it at this rate.

Wings and Flyers both stink and are only in the playoffs race because of their lucky pre-christmas records.

Isles are the Isles and probably stay where they are but wings and flyers will do their best to fall out of the playoffs and an NJD or PIT or BUF could easily get on a run to catch them.

Banked points are banked points though....

Philly is ostensibly in already. 93 point pace on the season, 93 point pace over their last 8. They're not good, but anyone other than NYI or Washington catching them just isn't likely. Shit, if Philly struggles down the stretch and goes something like 5-8-2, that's still 88 points. For Jersey to hit 88 points they have to go 10-6, which isn't crazy but it's not likely either (Jersey is 2-6 in their last 8 ffs).

Fwiw, money puck has the playoff chances like this:

Philly: 81%
NYI: 44.5%
Det: 27.4%
Wash: 20.8%
NJ: 15.5%
Pit: 9%
Buff: 7.8%

eh. PHI 74pt pace last 10, 82pt pace last 20, 84pt pace last 35. they play BOS-TOR-BOS-CAR-FLA-NYR in their next 6gms.

DET under .500 for their last 40gms at least.

Cool, and if Philly keeps that ~84 point pace over their final 15, they finish with 90-91 points and that very, very likely gets them in.

Detroit is in a dogfight though yeah, but not really with Buffalo, Jersey or Pittsburgh. Isles and Washington though, 100%.

Making up the points at this part of the year is only part of the difficulty. The real issue is leap frogging a bunch of teams at the same time. You have to run hot enough to make up the points, but at the same time run hotter than the 3-4 other teams already ahead of you trying to catch the same team.

Whats truly wild to me is Rempe or whatever his name his has significantly more data towards not doing this for a living as opposed to Simon who lived in a world where every team had at least one desingated face puncher for the nightly sideshow.

I do wonder if the NHL still thinks they need fighting to attract the American viewers, or its just the fucking boomer in the leather jacket with Bruins patches and their hat they got for free in a Coors lite case that are clamouring for this to be part of the game.

I do suppose if you removed fighting these fuckers would be pissed off, not understand the decision and use homophobic slurs to describe the game today, and then call someone who tries to explain that fighting is bad a pussy, and slowly but surely alienate everyone in their life with their outdated and concerning views, and maybe end their own life?....Guess it ends in suicide either way, but im okay more with the latter
