Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The main source of improvement is hopefully an healthy Dach.

1.35 P/60 in his first year in Montreal isn't exactly encouraging. It's hard to do as a fan when you're tanking, but getting attached to players who only put up decent-ish counting stats while playing huge roles on a bad team usually doesn't turn out well.

He might improve some but I don't think he's the team level improvement you're looking for if the expectation is to be an 80+ point team this year.

Put it this way. He's probably not going to be one of your top 6 forwards by the time this rebuild is done. We had some similar level young guys the last time we were terrible and they weren't bad players, but by the time we got good the Bozak's, JVR's, etc were nowhere near being top 6 players for us and left the organization.

Probabilities again. Could be right, could be wrong. I don't think they're near a contender but they're rebuilding properly. Didn't load up with junk like Chicago and Detroit. Truthfully I expected them to and am relieved they didn't.

If it turns out they're another bottom five team this season? Just means more for the cupboard. I don't think they will be should they be healthy but if that's the way it shakes out then it's still a win because there's no cup going to Montreal this year. I like the proper rebuild.

The only junk Chicago loaded up with was Maroon, Smith, Brodie and i guess if you want Martinez. Bertuzzi and Tuevo will be under contract when the next Chicago teams are classified as contenders.

The junk guys though, serve a purpose. Davidson wants his prospects to develop in the AHL first, and at minimum the guys he signed this year are functional NHL guys, all be it, not great ones. It cant be understated how brutal the Chicago roster was with non prospects last year that caused them to play some of their kids more than they probably wanted to

We've seen this type of "rebuild" before. It's junk. They may get closer to a spot then ownership wants that revenue then they take on more ufa because they're "so close". Rinse repeat.

Let the kids play and learn from their mistakes. I never expected a proper rebuild in Montreal. So far there's a definite plan and they're sticking to it. Refreshing from a team that's spun it's wheels for 30 years.

Weve also seen kids bust because they did not receive adequate time in the AHL.

If any of Frank Nizar, Kevin Korchinski, Logan Allen, Ethan Del Mastro, Landon Slaggert or whoever else look the part for the NHL, then literally none of Smith, Martinez, Brodie, Maroon, Anathasiou, or even Hall will stand in their way.

What the Hawks have done is add adequate NHL bodies to give their kids more time in the AHL, and have rentals available for mid to late round picks at the deadline, perhaps even higher depending on what Hall does.

We've seen this movie before though. Many times. The only way you'll really find out what you have in your system is to let them play. Some you thought little of may surprise and others you think more of may fail, that's life and hockey.

Habs have done what the Hawks are doing. Many have, even the Leafs. It could work but after decades of this kind of crap it's likely not going to work. I'll remind you that it took a stripped down (intended pun) Hawks team to rebuild then they win a cup.

Chicago (and San Jose) were so far below everyone else. There was so much room to make up. They are still garbage but at least Bedard can play with NHLers I guess. Last year was kinda brutal for him.
His winger was often Nick Foligno.

Bedard is so good it has convinced some that Phillip Kurashev might be a top 6 forward ( he probably isn't, but still a piece).

At least this year he'll have options in Bertuzzi, Kurashev, Hall or Teravainen. All of which are top 6 F or at least fringe top 6 F.

I get that you have to ice a team. I suppose I don't realize how bare the cupboard is over there then.

Also, Jared Tinordi and Nikita Zaitsev often played actual minutes. I know Brodie looked roasted last year, but he has to be an improvement on this, and i have no issues on a 2 year deal for him, for the leaderbean presence alone

I see one top six forward on any sort of playoff team in those you listed TBH.

Chicago is used to icing roasted D men. It's kinda your thing.

I'm just saying I don't like that sort of plan simply because it rarely, if ever, works out.

Chicago doesn't have a ton of AHL guys that look ready for the NHL, and Davidson doesn't want to force them into action before they are ready, but by the same token Bedard needs guys to play with. I dont think for a second they would have been this active without Bedard in town.

Balancing getting guys like Moore, Greene, Nazar, Korchinski, etc development time with giving Bedard actual guys to play with isn't really easy

Except, none of the guys they signed are blocking anyone. They arent kidding themselves by thinking they can win

Also, im sure rushing kids with zero veteran influence in a place like Montreal always works out.

If they wanted to, they could give NHL ice to all of Korchinski, Levshunov, Allan and Del Mastro this year.

They are choosing to let them develop in the AHL first, and if any of them look NHL ready, i think TJ understands he has to press box it a little bit, or Davidson takes a 3rd from stupid team at the deadline for Murphy's expiring.

Montreal's kids were thrown into the fire out of necessities and now we have a full cupboard of NHL D from potential top pair to bottom pair.

Nobody is getting rushed this time around and we have enough veteran "leaderbeans" in Gallagher (many deep playoff runs), Matheson (amazingly turned into a number 1 D) and others. The leadership is coming from Suzuki though so I don't place as much importance on leaderbeans anymore. All they're doing is teaching how not to win a cup.

Yeah, Habs kids are far more advanced than the Hawks kids.

Hawks can be projected for more points for 3reasons.

One. Connor Bedard
Two. Central vs Atlantic
Three. Higher floor NHL bodies
